Kanye West can’t escape controversy.

The Grammy-winning rapper is set to perform on July 4 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. But the mayor of the Texas city has called for the concert to be canceled because of Ye’s history of inflammatory remarks.

I support canceling the @kanyewest concert,” Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones wrote in an X post on June 20, shortly after tickets for the event went on sale.

“Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome—not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday,” she continued. “Standing up to antisemitism is exactly what it takes to achieve a more perfect Union.”

Despite the mayor’s opposition, tickets to the Kanye concert are still on sale. However, that’s no guarantee the show will go forward. In recent months, planned concerts in Poland, France, and the Czech Republic have been canceled or postponed in response to West’s repeated pro-Hitler and anti-semitic lyrics, posts, and other actions. Organizers of London’s Wireless Festival were also forced to cancel their event, which Ye was supposed to headline, after the U.K.’s Home Office denied him permission to enter the country. The ban was based on the conclusion that his visit “would not be conducive to the public good,” the BBC reported. He’s also been denied a vise to enter Australia, the home country of his wife, Bianca Censori.

In April, West did play two sold-out “comeback” shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. In addition to the scheduled concert in San Antonio, he will perform on June 26 and June 28 in Tampa.
