King Charles Praising Prince William Just Hours After Prince Harry’s Comment Was a Key Moment During State Visit
Prince Harry gave an interview to GQ, which was released the same day the royal family welcomed the Sultan of Oman to Windsor for a State Visit. During the sit-down interview, the duke was asked about a reconciliation with his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William.
“People look at us, and go ‘How are you going to work it out?’ Some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out,” Harry said. “With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile. That’s the key point.”
The “some people” remarks led many to believe that Harry was taking a shot at the Prince of Wales. The royals, meanwhile, carried on with business as usual during their state dinner with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
However, King Charles delivered a few remarks of his own about William, saying in part, “Our connections matter deeply and, in this regard, I have been especially delighted to see our sons … become joint patrons of the Jewel of Arabia Expedition. There can be few happier symbols of success than a living relationship being passed from one generation to the next.”
Here’s what someone who used to work for the king and knows the princes very well said about the praise the monarch gave to his oldest son.
Grant Harrold was King Charles’ personal butler for seven years. While working for the monarch, Harrold also looked after Prince William, Princess Kate, and Prince Harry whenever they stayed at Highgrove House. Since leaving the royal household, Harrold has become one of the U.K.’s leading etiquette experts, a best-selling author, and a commentator.
In 2025, he published his first book, The Royal Butler, which became an Amazon bestseller. He regularly appears on TV offering royal commentary on both current and historic news stories.
Speaking on behalf of CanadaCasino, Harrold told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “I have always been aware that the two families have had a strong relationship. William has always been friendly with the Sultan’s son. But the king’s speech was even more significant following Prince Harry’s comments to GQ earlier in the day.
“While we know that William and Harry have taken completely different paths, Tuesday’s events highlight how far they have moved away from each other. The void between the lives they have built for themselves is wider and more glaring than ever.”
Harrold added, “The State Visit showed that William is purely focused on being a royal. He is focused on building relationships with other households and royal families. He is loyal to his family, his country, and the Crown. He understands the responsibilities that brings with it.
“William is totally focused on ‘brand royal.’ Whereas Harry’s life has taken a completely different direction. He’s sitting down doing celeb interviews. They are on completely opposite paths.”
