‘Lioness’ Season 3 Release Date Revealed — See the First-Look Photos
Paramount+ has revealed the premiere date for Lioness Season 3.
The Nicole Kidman-Zoe Saldaña espionage drama returns Sunday, August 2.
In season 3 of the series from creator and writer Taylor Sheridan, “hidden networks, foreign operatives, and personal betrayals collide,” according to a synopsis from the streamer.

“Joe (Saldaña) walks the line between duty and home as unseen forces circle her world,” the description continues. “Patterns appear where they shouldn’t, names vanish, and paths rearrange. Guided by Kaitlyn (Kidman) and Westfield (Michael Kelly), Joe confronts enemies operating in the shadows, leaving her to reckon with a war that now reaches into every part of her life.”
In addition to Kidman, Saldaña, and Kelly, the Lioness Season 3 cast includes Morgan Freeman, Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Genesis Rodriguez, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Thad Luckinbill, Hannah Love Lanier, and Ian Bohen.
Lioness premiered in 2023. A second season followed in October 2024. Season 3 arrives after a nearly two-year hiatus. The delay was partly due to lengthy contract negotiations with Kidman, according to Deadline, along with conflicts related to both Kidman and Saldaña’s busy schedules.
Season 2 of Lioness ended with Joe and her team tracking down two Chinese nuclear scientists in Iran. The mission went sideways and a brutal firefight ensued. But Sheridan’s character, Cody, arrived in the nick of time to save the day.

First-look photos from the new season of Lioness hint at more serious action. In one image, Joe and two other soldiers flee from an explosion. In another, Joe and Kaitlyn are in what looks to be a tense meeting with Westfield, the CIA’s deputy director of operations, and Freeman, who plays the U.S. Secretary of State.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Saldaña said that Joe was at a “crossroads” following the dramatic season 2 finale.
“I had various conversations with Taylor in terms of where he was gonna take it, and I really am so happy and so proud of the direction that he eventually took for Joe,” she said. “It was very demanding, I’m not gonna lie. [Laughs.] And I didn’t even know if I was gonna be able to pull it off. But Joe and the team deserved so much more from me, and so I really wanted to step up to the best of my abilities — and I hope I did.”
