‘Love Island’: Melanie’s Heart Broke Into ‘a Million Pieces’ During Movie Night, Said Body Language Expert
During Love Island USA’s Movie Night, Melanie Moreno got insight into Sincere Rhea’s relationship with Sol Dean. The clips of Sincere and Sol dealt a major blow to the relationship, but Melanie said she realized she now knew the truth about her relationship. A body language expert weighed in on the way she felt in this moment.
Melanie learned that Sincere hadn’t been faithful to her during Movie Night
During Movie Night, Melanie watched footage of Sincere getting cozy with Sol. He also called both Melanie and Sol his “beloved.”
At Casa Amor, Sincere also formed a connection with Amora Robinson. While he ultimately chose to return to Melanie, he told Amora that he might have picked her if they had more time together.
While Melanie said it was good to know what Sincere was doing, watching these clips clearly hurt her. She began to cry while watching.
Melanie was devastated during Movie Night, said body language expert
According to body language expert Inbaal Honigman with Casino.ca, this moment cut Melanie deeply.
“Melanie’s heart breaks into a million pieces, right before our eyes,” she said. “She doesn’t want to be sad, or she doesn’t want to be sad in public, but she is truly devastated.”
Still, Honigman said that Melanie clearly did not want to cry during this moment.
“Before the tears, Melanie’s chin hardens. This stiff, raised chin is determined, defiant, she’s willing herself not to cry,” she explained. “But the sniffles come first, her nose pulls up a bit, showing that her emotions are starting to search for a way out. At that moment, her eyes redden and start to become damp. Her sadness overwhelms her.”
She noted that Melanie seemed to want to hide herself when her tears started to flow.
“She reaches to her face and dabs at her tears. This hand-to-face move is not just a tear-wiping practical move, it is also a powerful body language indication that she’d like to hide herself away,” she said. “She feels embarrassed to be crying, and worried that she’d look unappealing if she falls apart on TV.”
She leaned on the other women for support
At one point, Melanie told Aniya Harvey she was “shaking” and asked her to hold her hand. As she watches footage, she leans on the other women for support. Honigman believes that Melanie needed the physical contact in this moment.
“As her feelings of loss and abandonment threaten to overwhelm her, she needs the physical support of the other girls, and asks to be held,” Honigman said. “This is an attempt to feel less lonely in the moment.”
Love Island USA streams on Peacock. It streams at 9 p.m. ET, every day but Wednesday.
