Meghan Markle’s Claim About Major Difficulty Living in the UK Debunked by Kate
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been in the headlines a lot recently as the couple has returned to England with their children nearly six years after quitting their royal duties and moving to America.
It’s obvious that things didn’t work out for them in the U.S., which has left many believing that’s the reason they returned to the U.K. The move is still surprising though given that Harry insisted his family was not safe in his home country and they needed full-time security just to visit.
Something the duchess said while on the other side of the pond keeps coming up now as well since it was reported that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have started school.
Back in 2022, Meghan did an interview with The Cut in which she claimed continuing to live in the U.K. with her children would have been too difficult for her because she would “never be able to do school pickups and drop-offs without it being a royal photocall with a press pen of 40 people snapping pictures.”
The Suits alum went on to say, “Sorry, I have a problem with that. That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.”
However, Meghan failed to mention that the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) and Prince William actually do school pickups and dropoffs with their children almost every day. Although just about everyone in Britain knows which school their kids go to and what route the Waleses take, no photogs are there taking pictures of Kate or the future king when they are there.
Photos of the children have been taken on their first days of school, but they are either pre-organized with the Palace or they are images Kate actually takes of her kids to be shared on social media with royal fans, not from paparazzi hounding the princess.
Because the Waleses do this with no interference, it debunks Meghan’s claim about a press frenzy. However, The Sun reported that a friend of the Sussexes said that having a regular drop-off and pick-up time increases the security risk and therefore “the school run is a tricky issue and I understand they are nervous about it.”
Archie and Lilibet have already started school in the U.K. It’s not known if the duke and duchess have decided to take them each day or if they hired someone to do that. It’s also been reported that the family is paying to have their own private security at all times. It’s not clear how they will fund that as it is estimated to cost $3 to $4 million a year.
