What Is the ‘Met Gala Curse’? Kylie Jenner’s Fear of It Kept Her From Attending With Timothée Chalamet
Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet have attended many public events together, but they haven’t made their Met Gala debut yet. This is reportedly because Jenner fears the so-called Met Gala curse. A number of celebrity couples have parted ways shortly after making their Met Gala debut.
What is the Met Gala curse?
Breakups are common news in Hollywood, but the Met Gala reportedly hastens the end of a relationship for some couples. An eyebrow-raising number of celebrity couples have called it quits just months after making their Met Gala debut.
In 2015, Amanda Seyfried and Justin Long attended the Met Gala for the first time. In September of that year, they ended their relationship.
The Weeknd has been the victim of the curse twice. Both Bella Hadid and Selena Gomez broke up him after they attended the Met Gala.
Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes broke up just weeks after attending the event together in 2019. They’d been together for six years when they made their debut.
Similarly, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were together on and off for a decade before attending the Met Gala. They ended their marriage just months after their debut.
Other couples who have ended things after the Met Gala include Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello; Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal; Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter; and Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson.
Kylie Jenner was reportedly afraid of the Met Gala curse
While Jenner has become a frequent presence by Chalamet’s side at awards shows, they didn’t attend the Met Gala together. Jenner reportedly “intentionally avoided” having him as her date because she worried it could lead to the end of her relationship.
“Kylie and Timothée intentionally avoided attending the Met Gala together these past few years because they didn’t want to risk the whole ‘Met Gala curse’ thing,” a source told Page Six.
Jenner previously attended the Met Gala with Travis Scott. While they didn’t break up immediately after their debut, they eventually ended their relationship.
“Kylie was especially superstitious about it after going to the Met with Travis [Scott] in 2018 and 2019 before they eventually split,” the source said.
She reportedly “just didn’t want that kind of bad luck attached to their relationship and wasn’t willing to take any chances.”
The couple is reportedly discussing marriage
While Jenner is reportedly superstitious, her romance with Chalamet is solid. They have been together for over three years and are reportedly considering marriage.
“They are very serious and have talked about getting engaged this year,” a source told Us Weekly in January.
Chalamet has reportedly fit in well with Jenner’s family.
“He always has a spot at the table for every holiday and is included in all of their plans,” a source said. “They all really like him for her and think he has brought out a softer side to Kylie … She lights up when she talks about him and is always his biggest cheerleader.”
The source added that Jenner has already joked about Chalamet being her husband when she talks to friends.
