The Most Eye-Catching Engagement Rings Spotted at Wimbledon
When we think of glamorous engagement rings worn by tennis players, Serena Williams‘ diamond sparkler comes to mind. Her ring from Alexis Ohanian is massive, estimated to be around 12 carats and worth about $2 million. But some other stars of the court have shown off some pretty impressive jewelry as well.
Wimbledon is known for world-class tennis, but it’s also become the event for celebrities to see and be seen at. From Center Court to the Royal Box, some of the world’s biggest sporting stars have been spotted wearing extraordinary engagement rings worth millions.
Neil Dutta, Managing Director of the U.K. jewelry retailer Angelic Diamonds, broke down a few details about some of the other stunning rings we’ve seen over the years and how much they cost.
Maria Sharapova’s engagement ring
First up is Maria Sharapova’s spectacular ring from her partner, British businessman Alexander Gilkes.
Dutta told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “The former Wimbledon champion is no stranger to wearing eye-catching rings, having famously worn her first engagement ring while playing in 2011. Since retiring, she’s been spotted in the Royal Box wearing a new engagement ring featuring a striking vintage-style emerald-cut diamond with exceptional clarity, estimated to weigh between five and seven carats, set on a slim rose gold band.
“The combination of the emerald cut and the delicate band creates a design that feels both regal and understated, allowing the centre stone to remain the focal point. It’s a timeless style that continues to appeal to those looking for elegance over extravagance. Taking into account the quality of the diamond and its estimated size, I’d value the ring at around $330,000.”
Mirka Federer’s engagement ring
Another ring fans could not miss that has made an appearance courtside again and again is Roger Federer’s wife, Mirka Federer’s rock.
“Mirka Federer’s engagement ring is one of the most impressive pieces to have been spotted courtside at Wimbledon,” Duttaa opined. “The stunning 20-carat princess-cut diamond is surrounded by a halo setting, while the diamond pavé band adds even more brilliance without taking attention away from the centre stone.
“The ring is also reported to be a one-of-a-kind design by Brazilian jeweller H. Stern, making it an exceptionally rare piece. Princess-cut diamonds of this size are incredibly uncommon, and when paired with bespoke craftsmanship, it’s easy to see why this ring is estimated to be worth approximately $3 million.”
Anna Kournikova’s pink diamond ring
We’re not sure if we can call any of Anna Kornokova‘s rings from her longtime partner, Enrique Iglesias, “engagement rings” since the couple has never publicly confirmed that status. However, the pink diamond ring she has sported on the court is exceptional and needs to be mentioned when talking about some of the best sparklers seen at tennis events.
“Most engagement rings fade from the public eye, but more than two decades on, Anna Kournikova’s ring is still widely regarded as one of the most remarkable ever worn by an athlete,” Dutta noted. “What makes it so exceptional is its use of extremely rare natural pink diamonds. These account for less than 0.1% of all diamonds ever mined, making them among the rarest and most valuable gemstones in the world.
“The ring also features a striking pear-cut diamond, a shape that has become increasingly popular with newly engaged couples in recent years. In many ways, this design was ahead of its time, proving that elegant, elongated cuts have enduring appeal. Set on a platinum band, the design allows the rare colored diamonds to remain the focal point while providing the strength and durability expected from a piece of this significance. Taking the rarity of the stones and the craftsmanship into account, I’d estimate the ring to be worth around $5 million.”
