Nia Sanchez spoke about the reaction to Danny Booko
This season of The Valley has shown a number of fights between Booko and Sanchez. His drinking and the way he treats her have drawn criticism from viewers. Sanchez said that the backlash hurts her.
“We see the comments and we see the DMs and it kind of makes me wonder what’s wrong with people because he’s gotten death threats,” she told Us Weekly. “People have told him you should just, like, go in the back and take yourself out so that your kids and wife can be happier. That is so heartbreaking to me.”
She claims that Booko is trying to remain positive amid the backlash.
“He’s also so intentional with his headspace, and I’m so grateful for that because while those ones really do affect him and get him down, he starts every day fresh,” she said, adding, “He takes care of his mental health, like, physically with working out and prayer and meditation. He’s really intentional to be in a good headspace for our family.”
Nia Sanchez said she understands how Danny Booko feels
Sanchez won Miss USA 2014. In the aftermath, she said that she faced “scrutiny and negative comments.” As a result, she knows what Booko is going through.
“There were a lot of things that were similar coming at me and my headspace around it has always been that’s really sad that that’s someone’s heart and headspace wants to go put that on someone that they don’t know,” she said. “It helps me to kind of zoom out and be like it’s not a reflection of me or not a reflection of you.”
She has continually supported her husband throughout the airing of this season.
He issued a public apology to her
Amid the backlash, Booko issued an apology to his wife.
“To the person I love most, my beautiful wife, I am so sorry,” Booko wrote on Instagram Stories. “Watching these last few episodes back hasn’t been easy.”
He blamed the exhaustion of parenting for many of the disagreements between them. The couple has four children.
“It was a difficult season of life and a version of myself that I’m embarrassed by and not proud of,” he said. “A short fuse, stress, alcohol and lack of sleep are never a good combination, but that’s not an excuse. I should never have taken any of it out on you.”
Booko said he loves and respects her, and is grateful for their marriage.
“Nia, I love you so much,” he wrote. “I’m grateful for you, our family, and this beautiful, chaotic life we’ve built together. I thank God for you every day.”
The apology received renewed criticism from fans of the show.
