Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton were country music’s “It” couple. The two were together for 10 years before legally separating in 2015. While they’ve both moved on with their respective partners, Lambert recently looked back on the time right after their separation. She revealed that she was miserable but used her emotions to write songs.

Shelton and Lambert began dating in 2005. The former couple was together for a decade and married for four years before calling it quits. According to Us Weekly, she recently reflected on the time when she changed cities on the And the Writer Is… podcast. The 42-year-old revealed that her marriage was in shambles while she was in the middle of her tour.

“I got divorced, and that sucks for anyone, especially in the public eye, especially on tour, especially in the middle of a very public career, two of us, you know what I mean?” the country singer said. She continued to admit that it was not a “fun time” for her. She was living with her then-husband in Oklahoma, but following the divorce, she moved back to Nashville. What she did after returning home: diving “headfirst into songwriting.”

Lambert did not write only a few songs out of her “misery.” Instead, she wrote her sixth studio album, The Weight of These Wings. “When I moved back in 2015, I gathered up all of my friends and relationships from all of the previous years. And just used it, used the misery,” the singer explained.

Writing songs in Nashville meant she stayed out too late at “honky-tonks.” She also lived with her friends, who happened to be her fellow songwriters. Within the first four months, the singer came up with 75 new songs.

Following the divorce, Lambert tied the knot with Brendan McLoughlin in 2019. The couple is still together, and Lambert is the stepmother of her husband’s son, Landon.

Meanwhile, Shelton began dating Gwen Stefani by the end of 2015. At the time, Stefani was also going through her first divorce. The two got married in 2021. The God’s Country crooner also became the stepfather of Stefani’s three sons.

According to Hello!, both Lambert and Shelton shared a public statement announcing their divorce. The statement read, “This is not the future we envisioned, and it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately.” The former couple then reminded fans and the media that they were “real people, with real lives,” before asking for privacy.

The former pair often opened up about their high-profile divorce in the past decade. In 2016, the 50-year-old singer explained how he felt after parting ways with his partner of 10 years at an album launch party. He explained that the separation was exactly what it sounded like. However, things were not the same later.

He said, “Once you get past the anger and the frustration of it all, you kind of go into the sad part of it where it’s just like, ‘Gosh, how come that didn’t work out?'” Lambert also once revealed that she wasn’t prepared for the attention she received when she divorced.
