Taylor Swift has reached a point in her career where her celebrity invitations can draw some of the biggest names in entertainment. However, a recent story from rapper Nelly has offered a glimpse into a more unusual celebrity interaction from years ago. He recalled how Swift once offered him $50,000 in a McDonald’s bag for a surprise performance.

Nelly recently appeared on The Breakfast Club with his wife, Ashanti, and spoke about the unusual conversation between him and the Love Story crooner. According to Complex, he shared that he got a call from Swift out of the blue. She asked him to perform his hit track Hot In Herre in Houston.

The rapper continued to explain that the performance required him to travel from St. Louis to Houston. However, Swift did not exactly have the budget to pay him. She said, “I don’t want to disrespect you,” Nelly recalled. She further said, “I don’t really have a budget like that.”

The You Belong With Me singer offered to send her a private jet for commuting and $50,000 in payment. Nelly revealed that he then asked her to place the payment in a McDonald’s bag.

The 51-year-old eventually travelled to Houston with his family for the three-minute-long performance. He received the payment before he walked on the stage as he requested. However, the rapper revealed that he did not need the money, as he would have performed for free.

While Nelly flew to Houston for Swift and her friend’s routine on his track, he never saw it. He also refused to stay in the suite reserved for him and flew back home in the plane waiting for them.

Nelly and Ashanti have remained friendly with Swift over the years. The couple also attended her wedding to NFL star Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden. According to People, the couple recently shared what it was like watching the pop star tie the knot in the iconic arena. During a segment on Good Day New York, Ashanti exclaimed, “It was amazing,” explaining the wedding.

She continued to share how the couple transformed the sports arena into a dreamy wonderland. “It looked so beautiful inside, like it was like a real garden. Like, it was so magical. It was beautiful,” she said. Nelly agreed with his wife, adding, “It was great.”

Nelly and Ashanti joined the likes of many A-listers as they attended the pop star and NFL player’s wedding. They confirmed that they did not perform at the ceremony, but the rapper has previously shared the stage with Swift. He said, “Well, we’ve done some performances and things like that. She’s popped out and sung ‘Dilemma’ a couple times, and I’ve popped out on her show a few times.”

While their friendship dates back years, he shared how he is impressed with everybody working around her. “She’s been great, man. Her and her whole family, and her management team,” the rapper said.

At one point, Nelly and Ashanti discussed who was a bigger Swiftie. The 51-year-old won the battle of being a bigger fan of the pop star; his wife did not lag. She said, “I love Tay Tay. I call her Tay Tay, you know. But he’s known her longer.” Nelly further chimed in to share his thoughts on Kelce, saying, “Travis is a cool guy too. And he’s big, so.”
