Nicki Minaj Faces Fresh Legal Pressure as Ex-Assistant Demands Texts in 2024 Incident Lawsuit
Nicki Minaj is facing another legal dispute in the lawsuit filed by her former tour manager, Brandon Garrett. He is seeking communications related to his employment as part of the case. The pop star was accused of physical and verbal a—- against her assistant when he worked for her in 2024. In the latest update, the former assistant has insisted that the singer provide detailed conversations in which she mentioned him while he was employed.
According to the Daily Mail, Garrett’s legal team asked the singer to submit all communication records between her and anyone she spoke with about him. The conversations must include details about Garrett’s “role, duties, or performance” from the time when he worked for her.
Court documents revealed that the team asked Minaj to submit “emails, text messages, direct messages, letters, memoranda, or notes” from January 2024 to April 2024. However, the Barbie World singer pushed back on the demand on Friday. Her team claimed that Garrett’s request was “overboard,” “vague, and ambiguous.”
They also argued that in doing so, they would violate the privacy of the third parties involved. Overall, she denied the claims, saying she did not have such messages on her phone.
According to Billboard, Garrett first filed the lawsuit last year over an alleged incident that unfolded in April 2024. He sued Minaj, claiming that she verbally and physically a—– him backstage during her Pink Friday 2 tour show in Detroit. The filings claimed that the Grammy-nominated singer flipped at him after he had someone else pick up her prescription.
The complaint filed in court read, “Ms. Antney asked why Mr. Montgomery was picking up prescriptions on behalf of Defendant Maraj.” Garrett later noted Minaj’s reaction to the incident, claiming that she yelled threats at him. “Are you f—— crazy having him pick up my prescription? You have lost your f—— mind and if my husband was here, he would knock out your f——- teeth,” she told Garrett according to the records.
Minaj reportedly continued to shout at her then-assistant. She reportedly said to him, “You’re a dead man walking. You just f—– up your whole life and you will never be anyone, I’ll make sure of it.” He claimed in the complaint that Minaj’s reaction soon turned physical. She “open-handedly struck” him on the right side of his face.
By this time, her security team allegedly “swarmed in close” to them. Garrett allegedly got struck in his right wrist as well, which knocked the documents from his hand. The documents said that his “wrist was throbbing and his face was sore.” However, he hid in the restroom, terrified for his safety.
The singer then ordered her team to remove Garrett from the room. He was also refused boarding on the tour bus to Chicago the next morning. Upon reaching Chicago, Garrett allegedly contacted the Police Department to get escorted to his hotel due to his fear for his safety. He remained in the room for several days before flying back to Detroit to file a formal complaint.
Minaj denied all allegations and wrongdoing against her former assistant. Her legal team also noted that no complaint had been filed against her at the time. They added that they were unaware of the allegations. “We are confident that the matter brought by this ex-assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favor,” the team added.
