Halle Berry is currently facing a renewed custody battle against her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez, over their son Maceo. Martinez accused Berry of choking their 12-year-old son in a restraining-order filing. Amid the contentious custody dispute, Berry’s 18-year-old daughter, Nahla Aubry, defended her mother in a rare statement.

According to People, Martinez alleged that the actress choked their son during an altercation on September 26 at her home. He further claimed in court documents that Berry grabbed their son by the neck over an argument about Maceo playing a virtual reality game. He also alleged that it was not the first time the 60-year-old was abusive toward their son. She had allegedly wrestled with him before and made racial remarks.

Martinez demanded sole custody of Maceo. A judge temporarily restricted Berry to make court-ordered visitations to her son until the next hearing scheduled on October 16.

The Monster’s Ball actress, in her defense, asked the court to reinstate the former custody agreement. It would mean that both Berry and Martinez will have 50-50 custody of their son. She also claimed that Martinez has continuously attempted to influence Maceo against her, which causes the teenager to be “angry” with her.

Aubry recently came out in her mother’s defense, saying that the actress is a “loving and devoted parent.” According to Page Six, the 18-year-old gave a lengthy statement in court filings, claiming that her mother never physically abused her or her brother.

“I have never seen my mom hit, slap, choke, grab, or physically abuse Maceo in any way,” Aubry’s statement read. She added that she had never seen Berry place her hands around Maceo’s neck, put him in a chokehold, restrict his breathing, or engage in any conduct remotely resembling the allegations that have been made against her.”

Aubry clarified that she spent most of her life living with Maceo before moving to Massachusetts for college. She further described the actress as a hands-on mother who prioritized spending time with her kids and being present whenever they needed her. Aubry also clarified that Berry did not spoil her children, as she can be “strict when necessary.”

Berry’s daughter further pointed out that she always made sure her kids followed rules and remained respectful. “I never observed anything abusive about her parenting,” she said, complimenting her mother’s parenting tactics.

The 18-year-old also expressed how she was shocked and upset to learn about the allegations against her mother. Aubry said she was “heartbroken” for her younger brother, whom she called a funny and smart child.

She further touched upon Martinez’s allegations, claiming Berry made racial remarks about her own son. Aubry argued, “My mom is biracial, I am biracial, and Maceo is biracial.” She further wrote that Berry taught both her kids to “embrace” who they are and be respectful to people from all kinds of backgrounds.

Aubry spoke to Maceo on September 29 while Berry was driving him to school. The three of them interacted over a speakerphone, and she found the 13-year-old to be “happy” at the time. She did not find him upset during their last conversation.

While she revealed she would like to speak to her brother, she was unaware of what was permitted in the court filing. She revealed that she wanted her brother to know that she loves him.
