Jack Lowden could be going from Mr. Darcy to 007.

The Scottish actor is one of a handful of actors in the running to be the next James Bond. Lowden – who will soon appear as the romantic lead in Netflix’s six-part adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice – is participating in screen tests for the role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Slow Horses star is competing for the part of the suave spy with Callum Turner and at least one other actor, sources say. Both Frankenstein’s Jacob Elordi and Sinners’ Jack O’Connell were rumored to be in the running as well, but neither is testing for the part.

Amazon MGM Studios has been on the hunt for the next James Bond since it acquired the rights to the Bond franchise in 2025. Denis Villeneuve will direct the next installment of the long-running film series, which will be the first since 2005 without Daniel Craig in the main role.

“The search for the next James Bond is underway,” Amazon said in a statement. “While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”

Betting markets are feeling good about Lowden’s odds of landing the career-defining role. As of October 29, the actor has an edge with traders on both Kalshi and Polymarket, ahead of both Turner and The Crown’s Josh O’Connor.

Last month, Lowden’s Slow Horses co-star Gary Oldman joked that Amazon had already made its decision about Bond, and that Lowden was their man. But Lowden’s wife, Saoirse Ronan, has downplayed the speculation.

“Well, Gary Oldman thinks he’s James Bond, which is its own thing,” she recently told the Associated Press. “I mean, we’re kind of getting on with our life to be honest. We have plenty of other things to be dealing with. So yeah, it’s not it’s not really a subject that’s coming up in our house to be honest. The dog needs to be walked, the dinner needs to be made. We’re more focused on that.”
