Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s visit to Nottingham fell on the same day King Charles and Queen Camilla headed to Wales. According to the Express UK, the “clash” happened because the Sussexes’ office and Buckingham Palace do share their schedules. But the information “is often not detailed enough.”

A source close to Harry and Markle said the couple “would be happy to work around the King’s calendar.” Sharing more details about Charles’ movements “could be difficult,” the insider added. Harry and Markle began their Nottingham visit on October 15 with a stop at the Community Recording Studio in St. Ann’s.

Next, they headed to Himmah Hub, where they helped prepare food, including a chicken tagine lunch. Markle also reunited with four women affected by the Grenfell Tower fire. They had worked together on Together: Our Community Cookbook, which Markle supported in 2018. She called seeing them again “really, really meaningful.”

Their final stop was Epic Partners. Harry played pool while Markle cheered him on. They also decorated birthday cupcakes for the charity’s Chief Operating Officer, Michaela Castillo-Williams, who turned 30 that day. Fans had gathered to see them, too. Some shouted, “We love you,” as the couple greeted the crowd.

According to the BBC, at least 200 people gathered at their final stop. The visit also brought Harry and Markle back to a city tied to their relationship. Nottingham was where they made their first joint public appearance after announcing their engagement in 2017. “It’s great to be back,” Markle told well-wishers.

Harry also said, “It’s great to be back, wonderful, and great to be back in Nottingham too.” It was their first joint public appearance in the U.K. since returning in late August. But they weren’t the only royals making an appearance that day.

Charles and Camilla traveled to Cardiff for the ceremonial opening of the Welsh Parliament, the Senedd. It was Charles’ first time attending the ceremony as king since 2022. The two engagements took place more than 100 miles apart, but their timing still caught attention.

The timing came as Harry had spoken about wanting to repair his relationship with his father and brother, Prince William. In his GQ interview, published on October 20, Harry opened up about family rifts. He said people often talk to him about similar problems in their own lives.

“There’s sibling disagreements, there’s broken relationships between kids and their parents, kids and one parent,” he said. Harry added, “That continues to come up with me the whole time by people that I speak to. So I know how relatable it is. That’s probably why there’s so much fascination.”

The Duke of Sussex continued, “And then people maybe look at us and go, ‘How are you going to work it out?’ And then, maybe, how I see you’re going to work it out, maybe that will help me work my stuff out.” Harry admitted that “some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out.”

He ended by stressing, “The most important thing is to reconcile. That’s the key point.” Harry and Markle stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to California. Their departure, public interviews, and Harry’s memoir Spare added to the tensions with the royal family.
