For her eighth wedding anniversary, Meghan Markle posted two carousels of photos on Instagram featuring a series of never-before-seen snaps from the day she and Prince Harry got married. The former Suits star followed that up with a video of how the pair celebrated their anniversary at home later that evening with their children, and the gift the duke gave her.

However, many commenters aren’t buying that this clip is anything other than “staged” with one writing, “I just have this old old photo lying on the table ready for the cameras. So staged.” Another added, “So this was four years ago with three-year-old Archie singing.”

And a third added, “Camera man is always present,” while a fourth posted, “Oh my god. It’s sooo staged. Is it ‘As ever’ candle?” And a fifth said, “After 8 years, she’s still trying to convince they’re such a happy couple. Not buying it.”

Now, an expert is weighing in on whether or not they believe the clip looks staged.

Darren Stanton is a body language expert. He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector.” Stanton now offers his expert analysis on high-profile public figures such as the royals.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “This feels completely different from the usual shots we see of them at events, all dressed up and interacting with people. This is much more of an intimate glimpse into their private life … I think the thing that strikes me immediately, genuinely, is just how invested Harry is in this relationship. He clearly loves her a lot, and you can see it all over his face — the whole face is engaged.

“He’s walking in with the cake, setting up the anniversary celebrations, and it all feels emotionally genuine rather than something staged purely for an Instagram post. You can see that in the smile as well. It’s a genuine smile — the cheek muscles are engaged, the mouth, the eyes, everything. People always say the eyes are the windows to the soul, and straight away, from that first little bit of video, it’s pretty clear this isn’t just performative for social media.”

The expert continued, “There are also quite a lot of indicators of social ease and comfort between them. Meghan’s telling the story about the penguins, although we don’t actually see a huge amount of her, from a vocal point of view, and in terms of speech analysis, there aren’t really any voice cracks or noticeable changes in tone or pitch.”

According to Stanton, “There’s no visible tension there at all. It doesn’t feel staged or awkward. There’s nothing in the clip that suggests anything other than the fact that they genuinely do love each other very much.’

Showbiz Cheat Sheet acknowledges that conditions and cultures can impact body language and is sensitive to all backgrounds.
