Prince William’s Wife Is Surprisingly Called This Forbidden Name Behind Closed Doors
These days, Prince William’s wife‘s title is Catherine, Princess of Wales, but she is still well known to many around the globe as “Kate Middleton.” The nickname is one the royal family seems keen to drop, but perhaps it stuck because of how she was introduced to the world.
Now, someone who used to work for her is revealing that it’s not just fans and the media who call the princess that, sharing that she was always referred to as “Kate” by everyone in the royal household.
Grant Harrold was King Charles’ butler for seven years. During his time working for the now-monarch, Harrold’s duties included those of valet, housekeeper, house manager, and driver. He also looked after Prince Harry, Prince William, and the princess whenever they stayed at Highgrove House.
Speaking on behalf of Smooth Spins, Harrold told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “She was always known as Kate. William always called her Kate. This ‘Catherine’ thing only began after the wedding. I think after their coronation, she will be Queen Catherine. But until then, it was always Kate behind the scenes. I used to call her Kate … When I first met her, she introduced herself to me as Kate — and asked me to call her that.”
Fans may recall that William did, in fact, call the princess “Kate” before they got married.
Following the announcement that they were engaged in 2010, the couple sat down for a joint interview and during that, William affectionately referred to his then-fiancée as “Kate” repeatedly.
Since their wedding, William has refrained from calling her Kate and uses “Catherine” instead. Therefore, the video remains one of the last times William was heard using the nickname “Kate” publicly.
