From edge-of-your-seat thrillers to spicy romantasy, BookTok’s biggest hits are going from page to screen.

For the past few years, Hollywood has been looking to social media for clues about which stories people want to see on TV and in the theater. Bestsellers like Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us, Frieda McFadden’s The Housemaid, and Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis have all gotten adaptations, as have Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Daisy Jones and The Six, and E. Lockhart’s We Were Liars. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. More book-to-screen adaptations are on the horizon for 2027.

‘Children of Blood and Bone’ by Tomi Adeyemi

Author Tomi Adeyemi has distanced herself from the upcoming adaptation of her Africa-set fantasy novel, Children of Blood and Bone. But avid fans will likely still line up to see characters like Zélie (Thuso Mbedu), Prince Inan (Damson Idris), and Princess Amari (Amandla Stenberg) come to life on screen. This star-studded movie was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and also features Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba, and Viola Davis. It’s in theaters on January 17, 2027.

‘Beach Read’ by Emily Henry

Emily Henry books balance breezy romance with emotional depth, and now several are getting the movie treatment. Netflix released People We Meet On Vacation earlier this year, and next up is Beach Read. Directed by Yulin Kuang, it follows two authors – one a romance novelist (Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor), the other a writer of literary fiction (Patrick Schwarzenegger) – as they move into neighboring beach cottages for the summer and decide to swap genres to overcome writer’s block. It’s scheduled for released on May 7, 2027.

‘Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow’ by Gabrielle Zevin

Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones stars in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Gabrielle Zevin’sTomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. It follows two lifelong friends from childhood through college and as the team up as creative partners in a video game business. It’s set for release in theaters on November 12, 2027.

‘When He Was Wicked’ by Julia Quinn

Bridgerton’s upcoming fifth season will be based on Julia Quinn’s novel When He Was Wicked. But novel readers will have to brace themselves for some major changes to the original story. As teased in season 4 of the steamy period romance, Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd), who lost her husband Michael Stirling last season, will find new love with his cousin, Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza) – a gender-swapped version of the novel’s character Michael Stirling.

Bridgerton Season 5 doesn’t have a release date but will drop sometime in 2027.

‘The Score’ and ‘The Mistake’ by Elle Kennedy

Prime Video scored a hit with its adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus book series, about the romantic lives of a group of hockey players at fictional Briar University. Season 1 was based mostly on The Deal, while season – which has already wrapped filming – will take on elements of both The Score and The Mistake. There’s no official release date, but new episodes will likely arrive sometime in 2027.

‘The Nightingale’ by Kristin Hannah

Sisters Elle and Dakota Fanning co-star for the first time in the upcoming film based on Kristin Hannah’s historical novel The Nightingale. Set in France, it follows a pair of sisters who are torn apart during World War II. It’s due in theaters on March 19, 2027.

‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ by Frieda McFadden

Having survived her harrowing experience as a maid to the Winchester family, Millie Calloway (Sydney Sweeney) takes a new job as a live-in housekeeper for a wealthy woman. The catch? She never sees her employer. Are there jaw-dropping secrets just waiting to be exposed? You bet. Kirsten Dunst co-stars in the movie, which is scheduled for released on December 17, 2027.

‘The God of the Woods’ by Liz Moore

Liz Moore’s unsettling tale of a girl who goes missing from a summer camp in upstate New York is getting a Netflix adaptation starring Maya Hawke, Kerry Condon, Lola Kirke, and Tracy Letts. It doesn’t have an official release date, but filming began in June, which means there’s a good chance it will arrive sometime next year.

‘Quicksilver’ by Callie Heart

Fan-favorite romantasy novel Quicksilver is also getting the Netflix treatment. The enemies-to-lovers tale focuses on Saeris, a young woman who is transported from her desert home to a land of ice and snow, where she meets a fae warrior named Kingfisher. Unfortunately, there’s been no official news about the project’s status from Netflix, though author Callie Heart said last year that the script is finished. In other words, the odds of it seeing the light of day by the end of 2027 are slim, but fans can dream – and hope.

More BookTok adaptations in the works

Plenty of other movies and shows based on BookTok hits are also in development, with many coming from Amazon. Prime Video has confirmed the stars of its highly anticipated Fourth Wing series. It’s also working on adaptations of Elsie Silver’s Rose Hill book series and Lucy Score’s Things We Never Got Over. Amazon MGM Studios is also working on an adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s Love, Theoretically, as well as Liz Tomforde’s sports-focused romance series Windy City.

Elsewhere, a feature-film adaptation of this year’s BookTok sensation Yesteryear is in the works, with Anne Hathaway set to star in this story about a tradwife influencer who wakes up one day in the 19th century. Netflix is adapting Taylor Jenkins Reid’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, with Anna Kendrick directing.

Also on the horizon are a movie version of Tessa Bailey’s It Happened One Summer with Nina Dobrev, a TV series based on Jeannette McCurdy’s memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died, and a Netflix film based on Belle Burden’s Strangers starring Gwyneth Paltrow.
