The Real Reason Victoria Beckham Didn’t Attend Fellow Spice Girl Mel C’s Wedding
There were questions recently after the Spice Girls bandmates reunited for a celebration. That’s becuase they were down one member as Victoria Beckham did not join Melanie “Mel B” Brown, Emma Bunton, and Geri Halliwell for Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm’s wedding.
Mel C, also known as Sporty Spice, wed Chris Dingwall at the Country House Cumbria in the Lake District, England on July 18. During an appearance on Sydney, Australia radio station KIIS 1065, she talked about her big day and revealed why Posh Spice was MIA.
“[The wedding] was amazing,” Mel C gushed. “It was perfect. My feet haven’t touched the ground, really, because we had a beautiful weekend with all our families and friends … So Victoria was very disappointed to not be there. She was with David [Beckham] in New York, and it was the football (soccer)final, the World Cup. She tried to get out of it. She isn’t the biggest football fan. She won’t mind me telling you, but the family were there, and David had commitments being an ambassador for FIFA.”
There are no hard feelings though that her friend couldn’t make it because Victoria was still involved in the bride’s big day as she designed her wedding dress. Mel C’s gown was a floor-length ivory satin slip dress with floral Lyon lace appliqués, a softly draped neckline, a dramatic scooped open-back, and a gentle train.
Victoria also provided the “something borrowed” for Mel C’s legal ceremony ahead of her lakeside celebration.
“I was actually having dinner with Melanie and asked her what she was up to. She very casually told me she was leaving for Australia in two days and getting married!” Victoria recalled to British Vogue. “When I asked what she was wearing, she mentioned she had actually ordered one of my dresses but that it didn’t quite fit, and she didn’t have time to get it altered before leaving. I happened to have that exact dress in my own wardrobe and offered to lend it to her.”
It’s good to know that things are fine between the ladies and they still talk today, but the big question fans have is will the women all get together for a reunion tour to mark the 30th anniversary since the release of their hit “Wannabe.”
Mel C was asked about that possibility a few months back, telling KIIS then, “It’s a big one. And no, there is no reunion. We are communicating all the time. We want to do something. Who knows when? But I still feel very optimistic, and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future.”
The Spice Girls were one of the most popular girl groups of the ’90s with legions of fans who are keeping their fingers crossed just like Mel C. Since the band split in 2001, the women have reunited for several special projects, including the 2007–2008 Return Tour, their performance at the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony, and a 2019 Spiceworld U.K. tour. Victoria did not participate in their last tour due to her fashion commitments.
