It has been more than four months since Rob and Michele Reiner were discovered stabbed to death inside their Brentwood home. It has been more than four months since their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested for the crimes. While the younger Reiner son awaits trial, the couple’s eldest shared child is speaking out for the first time, revealing where he was when he received a phone call informing him of something that he still considers almost impossible to process.
Jake Reiner speaks out about Rob and Michele Reiner’s deaths for the first time
Jake Reiner took to Substack recently to pour out his feelings, months after his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, were found dead inside their home. In the lengthy essay, Jake reveals that he was at a memorial for a friend when his sister, Romy Reiner, called him, first to inform him that their father had been found dead. Moments later, she told him their mother was gone, too.
The eldest Reiner son said that what followed was a situation he still finds nearly impossible to comprehend. He spoke lovingly of his parents, about the life they shared together, and the moments they were robbed of due to the nature of their deaths. One thing Jake Reiner didn’t speak about at great length was his brother, Nick Reiner. Nick is accused of killing Rob and Michele Reiner after a heated argument the evening before.
Jake’s reluctance to speak about his brother is understandable. It’s a strategy everyone close to the situation seems to be employing. Since the day the couple’s second son was arrested in connection with Rob and Michele’s death, everyone has avoided speaking about him. Billy Crystal spoke lovingly of his dear friends and his connection to Romy and Jake Reiner during a recent interview. He never mentioned Nick. Conan O’Brien opened up about the grief he felt knowing his party was the last place his friends visited. He never spoke of Nick’s attendance at that party, either. Romy Reiner has yet to speak out. Jake acknowledged that she’ll do that in her own time, in a way that feels right. She probably won’t be mentioning Nick Reiner, either, it seems.
Where is Nick Reiner right now?
While the Reiner family has chosen not to speak about the alleged killer of Rob and Michele Reiner, his name has made headlines dozens of times since that tragic December morning. Right now, the 32-year-old is being held, without bail, at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility. He has been at the facility since his arrest. He will remain at the facility throughout his eventual trial.
No trial date has been set. Nick is expected back in court, along with his public defender, Kimberly Greene, on April 29 for a pretrial hearing. Shortly after the murders, Nick Reiner hired Alan Jackson to defend him. Jackson withdrew from the case in January, handing off Nick’s defense to the public defender now representing him. It’s unclear why Jackson stepped back.
