When King Charles became the monarch following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, he made it clear that there would only be a small group of royals representing the Crown for all future engagements. Included in the group of working royals with Prince William, the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton), and Princess Anne are Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie.
On March 10, 2023, King Charles gave his brother Edward the Duke of Edinburgh title, making Sophie the Duchess of Edinburgh. These days, the duke and duchess attend plenty of engagements as part of their royal duties, such as Sophie’s visit to The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead.

The expert added, “Sophie is also tilting her head slightly as she smiles. This suggests that she is relaxed and comfortable. The lack of tension in her jaw muscles confirms this. The way she is able to easily slip into these situations is what makes her one of the Royal Family’s most powerful assets. You can send her anywhere and she will make the best of it.
“This wasn’t a huge engagement, but the gestures she exhibited show why she is becoming more and more prominent. She and Edward will be used more and more as the years go on, and looking at this, the royal family is in really good hands. Sophie in particular seems as though she would take to a more prominent role like a duck to water.”
