‘Absolutely Crushing for Him’: Meghan Markle’s Plans Could Derail Prince Harry’s Desperate Reconciliation With King Charles
Prince Harry reportedly hoped Christmas would help him get closer to King Charles. According to RadarOnline, the Duke wanted to spend Christmas in Britain with Meghan Markle and their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
“Harry had desperately wanted to remain in Britain, believing Christmas offered a rare opportunity to rebuild his relationship with King Charles if his grandchildren could be involved in a visit,” the source said. The insider claimed Harry hoped Christmas might “finally provide the breakthrough he’s been waiting for” with the royal family.
He also hoped to “start to put years of bitterness behind them.” The insider added, “He knows things can’t be fixed overnight, but he felt the festive season could have given everyone an excuse to lower their defenses.”
“The thought of another Christmas passing without that happening is absolutely crushing for him, particularly because he feels time with his father is precious.” But Markle reportedly wants to spend the holidays in California with her mom, Doria Ragland, instead.
The source said Markle has a different “outlook” on the situation. “As far as she’s concerned, they’ve spent far too long trying to win over people who have made very little effort to welcome them back,” the insider claimed. Markle reportedly doesn’t want to spend the holidays feeling “uncomfortable. “
She doesn’t want to wonder whether they’ll be invited to royal gatherings or worry about how they’ll be treated. The source stated that Markle wants Archie and Lilibet to have a happy Christmas. She wants them surrounded by people who genuinely want to celebrate with them.
So, staying in California could mean a more relaxed holiday for the kids. Harry reportedly understands why Markle wants to stay in the U.S. He also “doesn’t want to force her into a situation she dreads.” Still, the tipster claimed Harry is struggling with the thought of missing another chance to make things right with his father.
He’s also reportedly worried Charles might see their decision to return to America as a sign he’s given up on fixing their relationship. “One of Harry’s biggest concerns is how Charles will interpret the decision to head back to America, as it inevitably means he’ll be going with Meghan,” the insider claimed.
Meanwhile, Harry has also spoken openly about wanting to fix things with his family. In a GQ interview published on October 20, he discussed his rocky relationship with his father, Charles, and his older brother Prince William.
“With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile,” Harry said. He also acknowledged that “some people don’t want it to work out.” But he added, “I want it to work out.” A Sussex spokesperson later said Harry’s comments weren’t intended as a dig at William or any other family member.
According to ABC News, the spokesperson said the remarks were made in “a general context.” Harry, Markle and their kids met Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House on July 10 this year. It was the first known time Charles had seen Archie and Lilibet in person since 2022.
Harry and Markle stepped away from royal duties in 2020 and later moved to California. The couple last spent Christmas with the royal family in 2018. Things have remained tense between the Sussexes and senior royals ever since.
