Meghan Markle reportedly wants to apologize to the royal family. But money could reportedly be the reason behind the move. According to an Express UK source, Markle regrets what she said during the 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview. She reportedly wants to sit down with the family and apologize.

Markle had claimed there were “concerns and conversations” about Archie’s skin color before he was born. She told Winfrey, “In those months when I was pregnant [there were] concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born.”

Prince William later pushed back against the racism claim, saying, “We’re very much not a racist family.” Now, the Express source said Harry and Markle “have always known since they decided to return to the UK that they would need to eat humble pie.”

The insider added, “Their one big regret about leaving the royal family for the US was their interview with Oprah. Meghan knows her biggest mistake was her claim that a royal family member had discussed Archie’s skin colour.”

The source said Harry was “angry with his family” back then. He stood by Markle. But “they now realise what a low blow it was. They both know they’re hot-headed and realise they took things too far, and they should have kept quiet.”

The couple reportedly now “want to focus on the future, and are hoping that will include a reconciliation at some point. They really want a sit-down so they can address what they said, and Meghan will apologise.” The source also said Harry and Markle feel good about being back in the U.K.

They reportedly hope Archie and Lilibet can get close to their cousins, Prince George, Prince Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Harry and William, though, have reportedly not spoken since 2022. They have still shown up at the same family events. Both attended Charles’ coronation in 2023 and the funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, in 2024.

There was also talk of a public apology on TV. However, according to a representative, that’s not happening. But James Walker isn’t buying it. The Daily Express Associate Editor questioned whether William, Kate Middleton, Charles and Queen Camilla would take it seriously on the latest Daily Expresso episode.

“To be honest, I don’t know how much to believe it. I believe they’re going to apologise but if I were Wills and Catherine, Charles and Camilla, I wouldn’t be taking that apology remotely seriously.”

Walker added that the Sussexes “just want money back in the coffers. They want to be doing stuff in public again. They want the armed police. They want their lives to be easy.” He continued, “These guys have got nothing going for them, they’re probably just very bored and feel a bit useless and redundant.”

JJ Anisiobi also gave his take. He said a public apology could be needed because the original claims were made publicly. “The British public who some of whom were very hurt by accusations against the Royal Family, they’re not going to forgive Harry and Meghan,” Anisiobi stated.

Harry and Markle returned to the U.K. on August 26. They landed at Birmingham Airport after six years in California. The couple reportedly plan to stay in Britain for an extended period.
