Meghan Markle’s latest burgundy outfit reminded many of Kate Middleton’s wardrobe. She wore the rich shade while joining Prince Harry for charity visits in Nottingham on October 15. The Duchess of Sussex wore a burgundy wool-and-cashmere coat by British label Joseph.

She paired it with a matching high-neck sweater, a purple midi skirt, and pointed heels. The original report listed the coat at $1,991. However, Page Six reported it at $2,305. Middleton has worn the British label, including its tailored trousers. She’s also worn burgundy for several royal engagements.

One of her best-known burgundy looks came during Qatar’s state visit to Britain on December 3, 2024. She wore an Alexander McQueen coat with matching accessories and a Chanel handbag. Fashion commentators linked the color to Qatar’s flag, which features burgundy and white.

Royal watchers also remembered a similar look Markle wore back in November 2018. She visited the Hubb Community Kitchen in North Kensington, London, wearing a burgundy Club Monaco coat over a matching dress. She paired it with black tights and ankle boots.

That visit had a personal connection for Markle. Earlier in 2018, she supported Together: Our Community Cookbook. It brought together women from a community affected by the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire. The cookbook helped raise money to improve their kitchen and support their work.

By November 21, 2018, nearly 40,000 copies had sold in the U.K., raising £210,000. Her connection with the group didn’t end when she and Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Markle stayed in touch after moving to California. During the coronavirus pandemic, she connected with the women as they prepared meals for vulnerable families across London.

In June 2020, Markle contacted the group to mark the third anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire. She also reportedly spoke with members by phone in October 2021 to recognize their achievements. Now, Markle has reunited with some of the women at Himmah Hub in Nottingham.

Meanwhile, Markle also drew comparisons with Middleton over the way she interacted with the crowd during her Nottingham visit. Body language expert Darren Stanton told InStyle that Markle bent forward to meet people at eye level. It’s a trick Middleton often uses during royal engagements.

“Meghan is very good at working the crowd. She’s confident, engaging, and seems to know exactly how to build rapport with people,” Stanton said. He explained that bending down slightly made her interactions feel more personal. It also helped people feel comfortable around her.

Stanton added that Middleton uses a similar approach when meeting well-wishers. He felt Markle had adopted the same style, calling it a relatively new approach for her. He also pointed to her genuine-looking smiles and engaged facial expressions. Her feet staying close together were another sign that she felt comfortable and focused on the people she met.

Harry, meanwhile, appeared to keep an eye on his wife. Stanton said he seemed keen to make sure Markle felt settled. He then gave her room to shine. Calling Harry “besotted” with Markle, he added, “It’s clear that Harry absolutely dotes on her.”
