Sarah Ferguson reportedly wants to open doors for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in London. The insider told the National Examiner, “She may be persona non grata publicly right now, but she still has plenty of friends in those circles that can smooth things along for Harry and Meghan.”

The source added, “She’s framing it as a chance to help them out because she understands how hard it is to be an outsider.” Still, the tipster suggested that Ferguson sees a benefit in staying close to them. “But naturally this is really all about Sarah helping Sarah,” the source put it. 

This came after Harry and Markle returned to Britain in late August 2026 with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. After six years largely based in California, the family planned an “extended stay” in the U.K. According to Page Six, the kids were also due to start school in September.

However, the couple has not confirmed it as a permanent move yet. Meanwhile, according to People, Ferguson was expected to return to England “in a matter of days.” She had spent seven months largely out of the public eye and abroad. 

The outlet said the 66-year-old planned to rent a six-bedroom home in the Home Counties for around $8,000 a month. Ferguson had left Royal Lodge in February after living there with her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, for years. 

Andrew initially moved to Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate before later moving to Marsh Farm. Separately, Ferguson spent time abroad, including in Switzerland, before making new living arrangements in the U.K. Her relationship with the wider royal family has had its ups and downs.

Meanwhile, Harry’s relationship with King Charles became strained after he stepped back as a working royal in 2020. In the March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry admitted the fallout had hurt his bond with his father. “I feel really let down because he’s been through something similar. He knows what pain feels like, and Archie’s his grandson. But at the same time, of course, I will always love him,” Harry said. 

Harry later met Charles privately at Clarence House in September 2025. It marked their first face-to-face meeting in 19 months. The Duke returned to Britain in July 2026 for a week of engagements. Markle, Archie, and Lilibet also joined him for a private family visit at Highgrove House with Charles and Queen Camilla. 

That renewed contact could also matter to Ferguson, according to the National Examiner‘s source. “They have the ear of the King now, so it can only bode well for her if they’re on side,” the insider said. The source also claimed Harry’s support could help Ferguson with London’s social crowd. 

“Anything she does for them is bound to benefit her by association because it will show the social set that she at least has her nephew still in her corner,” they noted. Royal biographer Andrew Lownie also claimed that Ferguson knew about Harry and Markle’s return before they arrived in Britain. 

Writing the Daily Mail, Lownie cited “bomb-proof” sources. He said, “Ferguson knew what was going on and she laid her own plans accordingly.” However, Charles reportedly learned about the Sussexes’ plans only days before they became public.
