Samsung Was ‘Dismissive and Callous’ When Asked to Stop Using Dua Lipa’s Image, Says Lawsuit
In her $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, Dua Lipa alleges that the company is using her image without permission. Samsung televisions feature her face on boxes, which Lipa said allows them to profit off of her by falsely portraying her as a sponsor. She also claims that the company callously ignored her request to stop using her likeness.
Dua Lipa’s lawsuit claims Samsung ignored her request to stop using her image
On May 8, Lipa filed a complaint against Samsung. She alleged that the company uses a copyrighted photograph of her on boxes containing televisions. In June 2025, Lipa reportedly asked the company to stop using her image, but they refused.
“Samsung’s copying and distribution of the DL Image constitutes willful copyright and trademark infringement, and a violation of Ms. Lipa’s right of publicity, designed to improperly capitalize on Ms. Lipa’s hard-earned success to promote and sell Samsung’s products,” the complaint reads, per Entertainment Weekly. “Samsung has refused to comply with Ms. Lipa’s repeated demands that it cease and desist from infringing on her rights by the continued exploitation of the infringing products.”
The complaint also describes the company’s response as “dismissive and callous.” In addition, it said that the television boxes are still using her image in “ongoing acts of willful infringement.”
“Samsung’s infringing conduct — using Ms. Lipa’s assets for zero consideration — makes a mockery of her hard work in establishing a successful brand and has deprived her of the ability to control and monetize her assets,” the complaint continues. “This misconduct thus dilutes the value of her intellectual property and personal identity rights in connection with legitimate brand deals and sponsorship opportunities.”
Lipa has an extensive portfolio of brand deals, partnering with companies like Puma, YSL Beauty, Bvlgari, Nespresso, Yves Saint Laurent, Porsche, Apple, Chanel, Tiffany & Co, and more.
