Savannah Guthrie Lands New Job as Search for Missing Mom Continues
Savannah Guthrie is taking on a new role. The Today show anchor will host a new game show based on the popular Wordle game from The New York Times.
Savannah Guthrie to host game show based on Wordle
Guthrie – an avid Wordle player – will helm the NBC series, which “challenges players to solve five-letter word puzzles in a supersized battle of smarts, speed, and fun.”
“It builds on the way the puzzle community engages with Wordle every day — solving together, sharing wins, debating strategies and cheering one another on,” reads NBC’s description of the show. “Now, that style of play comes to life as the most-obsessed and competitive players will team up in squads and go head-to-head in the Wordle arena, playing for an incredible cash prize.”
“I feel very honored to be working with Savannah Guthrie on this show,” said Jimmy Fallon, whose Electric Hot Dog will produce the show, along with Universal Television Alternative Studio and The New York Times. “Savannah has that rare combination of intelligence, charm, and warmth that makes everyone feel instantly welcome. And she obviously knows how to host a show. I am SUPER PROUD and HAPPY and I think we developed a SOLID GAMER for PRIME-time.”
“Like Jimmy, Savannah is a passionate Wordle player – she even solved on TV in Times Square. No one gets what our contestants will go through like she does,” said Caitlin Roper, executive editorial director of film and TV at the Times.

‘Today’ anchor will ‘never stop looking’ for missing mom Nancy Guthrie
For Guthrie, the Wordle show announcement is a bright spot in dark times. The news of her latest gig comes as the search for her mother, Nancy Guthrie, enters its fourth month.
“Happy to have something joyful to share,” Guthrie wrote on her Instagram Story after the show was announced on May 11.
The 84-year-old Nancy has been missing since she was apparently abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona, by a masked intruder in the early hours of February 1. Despite an extensive search, her whereabouts remain unknown.
On Mother’s Day, Guthrie shared an emotional plea on social media asking for help finding her mom.
“Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie – we miss you with every breath. We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you,” she wrote. “We need help. Someone knows something that can make the difference. Call 1800CALLFBI. You can be anonymous and the reward remains available.
“Plese keep praying,” she added. “Bring her home.”
