Leon Brown is ready to share their story of growing up in a fundamentalist Mormon family.

Leon – who is the only child of Meri Brown and Kody Brown – spent their younger years on TLC’s hit series Sister Wives. The show featured Leon parents, as well as Kody’s three other wives and their 17 children. As one of of the older siblings, Leon, 30, was a major part of the show, most notably in a season 11 episode when they came out as gay.

A few years after opening up about their sexuality, Leon stepped away from Sister Wives. In 2022, they came out as transgender. Since then, Leon has kept a relatively low-key profile. While they post periodically on Instagram about their life in Colorado with their wife, Audrey, they have mostly kept quiet about recent Sister Wives drama (though they did recently refute Kody’s claims that he’d attempted to mend fences with his estranged kids.)

But now, Leon is ready to start talking about their experience on Sister Wives.

“I was raised on TV,” Leon said in a video shared on TikTok on May 29. “I grew up in a cult, a polygamist cult. And when I was 14, my parents started filming a TV show on a very popular network.”

“I haven’t ever really talked about my own story publicly before, and that feels increasingly inauthentic,” they continued. “I think it’s time that I start talking about it. I love stories. I’m a storyteller; I’m a story listener. Stories really enrich my life and help me find parts of myself that I need. And I think it’s probably time I start sharing my own story. It’s been told for me.”

‘Sister Wives’ was a ‘formative’ part of Leon’s life

Leon went on to say they previously didn’t feel “ready” to share their story. However, by speaking out now, they hope to help others, and perhaps themselves as well. Before, they’d tried to speak about their journey without talking about Sister Wives and their experience in a polygamist family, but that was difficult.

“This was my foundation. This was my childhood, this was my formative years. I think to tell my story at all, I have to tell you this,” Leon said. “Follow along for the ride. We’ll see what happens.”

Leon’s followers praised them for taking control of their own narrative. Many said they were eager to hear their side of the Sister Wives experience. While Leon has not yet shared specific stories, they made it clear that they didn’t see their time on the show as a positive.

“Did u like growing up on tv?” one person asked.

“No,” Leon replied.
