Arsenal right winger Bukayo Saka has become one of the most popular and brightest stars in soccer thanks to his skill, consistency, and humble personality.

Bukayo Moses Ayoyinka Temidayo Saka was born on Sept. 5, 2001, in the London borough of Ealing, England, to parents Yomi and Adenike Saka. His mother and father emigrated from Nigeria in the 1990s in search of better educational and career opportunities. They raised Bukayo and his older brother in a close-knit household that emphasized hard work, discipline, education, and faith.

Yomi is a businessman who dedicated countless hours to driving Bukayo to training and matches throughout his youth. And Adenike is a chartered accountant. She was educated in Lagos and studied veterinary medicine at Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria before earning a diploma in accounting from the University of West London. Bukayo has frequently credited his parents for keeping him grounded despite his rapid rise to soccer stardom and has spoken about how proud he is of his family’s Yoruba heritage.

The Yoruba community is one of Nigeria’s largest and most influential ethnic groups. The Yoruba people are primarily found in southwestern Nigeria and are known for their rich traditions, language, art, and cultural heritage.

His first name, “Bukayo,” is derived from the Yoruba language and means “added joy,” a fitting description for a player who has brought joy to Arsenal supporters and England fans alike through his exciting style of play.

Buyako visited his parents’ homeland in 2023 and was hosted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The meeting served as a celebration of both the athlete’s achievements on the global stage and the enduring pride he has in his roots.
