Vanderpump Rules showcased the close friendship between stars Stassi Schroeder and Katie Maloney. While they had ups and downs over the years, they were generally able to rely on each other. According to Schroeder, the pair had a secret falling out after she left the show. Her new series, House of Stassi, was inspired by the relationship dynamic.

Stassi Schroeder said she had a falling out with ‘Vanderpump Rules’ star Katie Maloney

Schroeder and Maloney became friends while working at the restaurant SUR. They had their problems on Vanderpump Rules, and Schroeder recently admitted they had a falling out after she left the show.

“No one knows that we had a falling out for years,” she told Marie Claire. “Now we’re rebuilding our friendship after growing in two completely different directions.”

She said that the breakdown and recent rebuilding of their relationship inspired her upcoming reality show, House of Stassi.

“I don’t see TV shows out there that explore how when you get to a certain age and you all choose different paths in life, how that affects your friendships and then how you come back together,” she said.

She said that she feels her new show captures this phase of her life well.

“We’re starving for something that’s not just aspirational or depressing,” she said, adding that the show “is what it’s really like when you grow up.”

Stassi Schroeder and Katie Maloney spoke about reuniting after a past falling out

During the first season of Vanderpump Rules, Schroeder and Maloney had a massive fight. They ultimately reconnected, which Schroeder said came as a relief.

“I knew that Katie was hurting the same way I was, we both were wrong and we both were right,” she told Bravo. “We were both guilty of things and both innocent to a certain extent. I really missed her, and she hadn’t gone out of her way to hurt me, so it just felt right to speak with her. I was so happy with the conversation. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted. I had my sister back again.”

Maloney said she was nervous before discussing their disagreement.

“Stassi has been my best friend for years and this was our first falling out,” she said, adding, “I hadn’t spoke to her in almost a month. I was hoping for the best but expecting the worst. I have always been honest with Stassi and suddenly my honesty was not welcome, which led to our fallout.”

Maloney said that she thought of Schroeder as a sister and was glad to get on better terms.

“Stassi is really like a younger sister,” she said. “I think our friendship is much like a sisterhood, in that I give her that tough love simply because I’m protective and truly want the best for her.”

She spoke about returning to reality television

Schroeder was fired from Vanderpump Rules in 2020 after racist actions against former co-star Faith Stowers came to light. She said she is glad to have been fired, as it forced her to reflect and grow.

“I was incredibly selfish and chaotic and I just feel like I didn’t consider other people before I did things or said things,” she said. “And if I were still in Vanderpump Rules, I’d probably be the same person. This time away from reality TV has shaped who I am now.”

She made her foray back into reality television on Vanderpump Villa in 2025. House of Stassi will be her first full-time reality show in years. She said she is looking forward to it.

“I started doing it when I was 16 years old — that is more than half of my life,” she said. “[Reality TV] excites me. I feel passionately about it … I will bleed out for this.”

She feels more confident with the new show because she wanted control over her portrayal.

“I was very certain that if I’m going to do reality TV again I need to be able to say, ‘No, you can’t show this with my kids.’ I’m protecting my family at this point.”
