Taylor Frankie Paul Still Has a ‘High Hill to Climb’ Despite Court Win, Says Attorney
On June 1, a judge ruled that Taylor Frankie Paul could have unsupervised visits with her son, Ever. This is a win for Paul, but an attorney said she still has a long way to go to rehabilitate her public image. This is especially true if she wants to get back on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
Taylor Frankie Paul had a win in court amid her ongoing custody battle
A judge previously granted Paul’s ex, Dakota Mortensen, custody of Ever with mandatory supervised visits for Paul. On June 1, a judge ruled that Paul can now have unsupervised visits with her son.
“I’m encouraged and I think we’re moving in the right direction,” the judge said, per Us Weekly. “From now until the next hearing, I’m going to recommend supervision be lifted.”
The judge also ruled that Paul can have custody of Ever on alternating weekends. She will also have him on one midweek day that’s not overnight.
“We want that day to be consistent so we are on a set schedule,” he said.
The judge told both Paul and Mortensen not to make disparaging posts about each other, attend therapy, and stay 100 feet from one another.
“I certainly think that both of them have a sense that they are the victims and not the perpetrators and I get that,” the judge said. “The main concern of the court is to prevent further acts of domestic violence and we can have the hope that we see the parents being in the same place getting along but now is not that time.”
Their next hearing is scheduled for July 8.
An attorney said Taylor Frankie Paul still has a long way to go in court
For Paul, the recent ruling is a win in her fight for custody of Ever. Still, she has a long way to go in restoring her reputation after footage of her attacking Mortensen with her daughter in the room.
“The court’s most recent ruling, temporarily lifting the restriction of supervised visitation, certainly moves the needle in the right direction for Taylor,” entertainment attorney Jordan Matthews of Holtz Matthews LLP said. “Regardless, the video that was released of her throwing chairs at Dakota and in the direction of her child is extremely alarming and damning, and in many respects is as career altering as Will Smith’s infamous slap. Yes, you can still have a career afterwards, but your image will be forever changed.”
Paul took a step back from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives after the show paused filming for season five. Matthews said that she could use her recent win to get back on the show. It won’t be an easy journey back, though.
“Regardless, she still has a high hill to climb,” he said. “In any instance where a figure on a Disney-produced show does something that harms a child, or threatens a child’s safety, it’s very damaging for Disney’s brand. Taylor has a large following, but she is going to have to seriously rehabilitate her image in order to convince Disney to put her back on the show.”
She reportedly wants to be back on the show
SLOMW producer Jeff Jenkins said that the show is gearing up to start filming again. He hopes to see Paul on it in the future.
“I’ve talked to Taylor, and she wants to come back, and I want her to come back,” he told Variety. “So I’m really hopeful that that’s going to happen.”
He believes that she makes good television because she doesn’t censor herself.
“She’s amazing,” he said. “I mentioned Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian. Taylor Frankie Paul has that thing, like her two predecessors do, where she’s just made for this. To share her life on camera, she does it like breathing air. She doesn’t edit herself. She’s really built for this type of lane.”
He said he hopes to work with her on more projects in the future too.
