Theresa Caputo didn’t set out to become one of the most famous psychic mediums in the United States. But a national tragedy led her to realize that her unique gift could be used for good.

‘Long Island Medium’ star had a ‘spiritual experience’ after 9/11

The Long Island Medium and Raising Spirits star was a guest on the September 1 episode of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Off the Vine podcast. She shared how a visit to a spiritual healer while she was struggling with post-partum anxiety made her realize she had special abilities. But it wasn’t until some years later that she discovered her true purpose.

“I know that my gift is guided by God. Because I struggled with my gift. And I didn’t know what to do cause I was like, ‘OK, this is great. I’m blessed with this gift. Who’s going to want to come and see a medium?’ Right? And then 9/11 happened.”

“I had a spiritual experience during a meditation where my spirit guide came to me and told me that thousands of people perished that day,” she continued. “And the families did not know what happened to their loved ones. And they needed the peace in knowing that their souls were at peace with God.”

“So I put my gift in God’s hands and I said, ‘If this is my soul’s journey, open the doors and I will walk through them with my gift, but I only want to help people,” Caputo explained. “I don’t want anything negative. I only want information for the highest good of all concerned.’ And then I reminded God that I was afraid of the dark. So, here I am. And I never thought that I’d be where I am.”

Theresa Caputo says being a medium is a ‘privilege’

In 2021, Caputo put her gift to work in a TLC special commemorating the 20th anniversary of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks. While some people criticized the program, one relative of a 9/11 victim who sat down with Caputo said she found the process healing.

Caputo told Bristowe that her work connecting people with their dead loved ones was often difficult. But she embraced her role.

“I don’t look at it as a responsibility,” she explained to The Bachelorette alum. “I feel that it’s an honor and a privilege to be able to do this work. And the fact that people trust me with the souls of their departed loved ones means the absolute world to me. I was built to do this.”
