Beyoncé recently came under fire after she began selling a new product on her online shop. Unlike her previous products, it is not a vinyl record or a piece of clothing. Instead, it is a nearly $1,100 wooden box. The new product caused an uproar on the internet as many social media users called her out for her “disgusting display of greed.”

The Cowboy Carter crooner is one of the richest female singers in the world. Moreover, she is married to the wealthiest musician, Jay Z. According to Hello!, the singer launched the “Bey Keeper Collector’s Box” on the occasion of her 45th birthday and the 20th anniversary of her album B’Day. 

While she has previously launched several products on her website, the highly priced box caught everyone’s attention. With only 500 boxes made available, its description made many raise questions. It read, “Inspired by the beauty of traditional beekeeper crates, this limited-edition collector’s box is designed to house and display your beyoncé vinyl collection.” 

The website further revealed that the box was made with pine wood. Furthermore, it had a green velvet lining and could be handled with its faux leather belt. While described as a box for Beyoncé’s vinyl collection, the description clearly mentioned that the purchase did not include vinyl records. 

Each box is labeled with its number, which is why the singer labeled them as collectibles. The empty box made many wonder why a billionaire needs more money. 

The discussion around the new launch on Shop Beyoncé was rife with one user writing, “$1K and it’s an empty box. Beyoncé, you have lost your damn mind!” Another user jokingly wondered, “Does she come out of the box?” before adding, “Then yes.” “Girl, what the hell are we going to do with wood and air?” a third user quipped. 

Several fans also turned against the singer for her latest product. One of them wrote, “Beyoncé, aunty, I LOVE YOU, but your greed sickens me.” “This is INSANE. $1,100 (including tax & shipping) for a wooden box. Yeah, no one is forcing us to buy it, but this is highly upsetting,” one user wrote.

Many fans were puzzled to know why a billionaire married to another billionaire needed money. “Love her music, but by God she’s the greediest of all of them,” a fan wrote. Some also drew comparisons between the 45-year-old and her fellow billionaire singer Taylor Swift, with fans siding with the Love Story singer.

According to Forbes, Beyoncé’s net worth is $1 billion. Most of her wealth comes from her musical career spanning about three decades. Besides her grand net worth, the singer is also the record-holder for the most Grammy wins ever, with 35 awards from 99 nominations. 

On the other hand, Jay-Z, who has been married to Beyoncé since 2008, is the richest musician in the world. With an estimated net worth of $2.8 billion, the rapper has broken various records throughout his musical career. He became hip-hop’s first billionaire in 2019 and has significantly raised his fortune since then. 

People call Beyoncé and Jay-Z the power couple of the music industry. Therefore, the singer’s $1k wooden boxes backfired immediately.
