TLC’s Unexpected has highlighted some truly controversial couples. Very few have piqued the interest of viewers as much as Hunter Johnson and Bella Vaughn. Hunter was just 12, and Bella was just 14 when they conceived their son. Their ages, plus plenty of family drama, made their story particularly compelling. Now, there appears to be a new layer of drama. It appears the pair, who once insisted they were engaged, have split, and Hunter has seemingly moved on.

Hunter and Bella’s relationship led to a custody battle for Hunter

Hunter Johnson and Bella Vaughn appeared together on season 7 of Unexpected after Bella became pregnant at age 14, when Hunter was just 12 years old. Their son, Wesley Kristopher, was born in early 2025. While several of the adults in their lives were supportive, Hunter’s father, Casey, was not. The romance, along with the couple’s engagement, led to a full-blown custody battle over the young father.

During season 7 of the series, Hunter lamented that his father believed he had ruined his life. After Casey learned his son was still spending nights with Bella at her family’s home and skipping school, he filed for full custody. Casey accused Hunter’s mother, Stacie, of allowing Hunter to run wild. While custody was not immediately granted to Casey, restrictions were put in place to try to slow the progression of the young romance.

A split appears to have followed shortly after. Though Bella and Hunter have not addressed it publicly yet, they also aren’t hiding the fact that their romance appears to be over.

Hunter Johnson might have a new girlfriend

Hunter Johnson and Bella Vaughn have split, despite sharing a son. The young couple has not made an official announcement, but their social media activity suggests forever is no longer on the table for them. First, fans were quick to notice Bella had scrubbed many social media posts that featured Hunter from her feed. She began posting cryptic content about betrayal, too. Her mother, Falen, also made comments alluding to a split. Still, there was nothing concrete.

Then, a fan spotted something interesting coming from Hunter’s social media feed. A TikTok user took to the platform to share a screenshot of Hunter Johnson’s recent comment on another teen’s upload. In the comment, Hunter wrote “she’s all mine,” suggesting he had already moved on. Hunter has not commented publicly, but one imagines Bella has some thoughts on the matter.
