Victoria Beckham Finally Breaks Silence on Son Brooklyn, Says She Only Ever Tried to ‘Protect’ Him
In January, Brooklyn Beckham posted a bombshell statement about his relationship with parents David and Victoria Beckham. He confirmed that rumors of a family rift were true and that he wanted nothing to do with his parents moving forward. The statement sparked a media frenzy, but David and Victoria have avoided commenting directly on it. She recently spoke about her relationship with Brooklyn, though she didn’t use his name.
Victoria Beckham addressed Brooklyn Beckham’s estrangement
David and Victoria have four children. In recent years, they’ve transitioned from having young kids to raising adults and young adults. She said they’ve always tried to do their best by their kids.
“Being a parent of young adult children and adult children, gosh, I mean, it’s very different from having little children,” she told the Wall Street Journal. “I think that we’re trying to do the best we can.”
When asked directly about her relationship with Brooklyn, Victoria answered carefully. She said their goal as parents was always to keep their children happy and safe.
“I think that we’ve always — we love our children so much,” she said. “We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”
Brooklyn Beckham accused David and Victoria Beckham of caring more about brand than family
In Brooklyn’s statement, he accused his parents of being performative with their love. He believes that they care more about the Beckham brand than actual family ties.
“My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first,” he wrote. “Family ‘love’ is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it’s at the expense of our professional obligations.”
He claimed that he and his wife, Nicola Peltz, want a very different life from the one his parents have.
“I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief,” he wrote. “My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.”
The rest of the family has reportedly grown closer
While Brooklyn said he does not want a relationship with his parents moving forward, the other Beckham children have sided with them. When Victoria received her French Knighthood in January, the rest of the family was there to support her.
“[Victoria] wants to move forward with dignity and grace,” a source told Hello Magazine. “They’re focusing on the positives, including Victoria’s achievement and Cruz’s concert in London next month. If anything, this has all brought them closer than ever, just sadly without Brooklyn.”
Cruz Beckham has been particularly vocal in his support for his parents.
