TLC viewers who followed the now-canceled Duggars are familiar with the ultra-conservative family’s unique take on dating. Young couples engage in a supervised courtship, which often lasts just a few months, before saying “I do.” Couples usually avoid physical contact while courting, and save their first kiss for their wedding day.

Like the Duggars, Lydia is a conservative Christian. And similar to the stars of Counting On and 19 Kids and Counting, she is taking it slow when it comes to getting intimate with Zac.

“Zac and I are saving our first kiss for our wedding day,” Lydia reveals in the Welcome to Plathville Season 7 trailer.

“Among other firsts,” Lydia’s dad Barry Plath chimes in, with a wink.

“And then all the other firsts,” Zac replies, looking uncomfortable.

“I need more champagne,” Lydia’s mom Kim Plath declares, as everyone laughs.

Fans of Lydia’s may soon get to hear how her first kiss with Zac went. The couple – who wed in February 2025 – recently visited Jinger Duggar and her husband Jeremy Vuolo in L.A., where they recorded an episode of the pair’s Jinger & Jeremy Podcast.

Lydia echoes the Duggars by decided to save her first kiss for her wedding day

Lydia’s decision to wait to kiss Zac might seem strange to most people, but it’s not unusual in certain circles. The Duggars were famous for saving their first smooch for their wedding day, leading to some awkward moments at the altar.

Jill Duggar’s husband Derick Dillard went for a super-deep dip during their first kiss, which almost cause Jill to lose her balance. John-David Duggar opted to draw out his moment with Abbie Grace Burnett, kissing her hands, shoulder, forehead, and cheeks before finally getting to her lips. Meanwhile Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald opted to keep their kiss private, retreating to a closet to lock lips for the first time.

Why not indulge in a little practice kissing before the big day? Jill said not focusing on the physical aspect of the relationship allowed her and her husband-to-be to really get to know each other before their wedding.

“We’re just really trying to keep our relationship focused not on the physical but really just more on communication and continuing to learn more about each other,” she said during a 2014 interview with ABC. “We’re saving our first kiss and things beyond that for our wedding.”

Welcome to Plathville Season 7 premieres Tuesday, July 22 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TLC.
