Prince William and Kate Middleton are not amused.

The future king and queen of England are reportedly growing increasingly frustrated with the hoopla surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle since the latter couple returned to the U.K. from the U.S.

“William and Catherine are said to be absolutely seething by the Sussexes since they’ve been back,” reporter Chloe Walker said during an appearance on Australia’s News24. “I mean, look at the circus that’s unfolded.”

“They’ve only been back, what two or three weeks?” she added. “You can’t make this stuff up … They are not happy at all. They think they are just essentially making an mockery of the institution that they work so hard to uphold.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have had a frosty relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for years. But until recently, Meghan and Harry were thousands of miles away in California, allowing both couples to steer clear of each other. Now, with the Sussexes back on U.K. soil with their two young kids, William and Kate have apparently been advised to arrange a face-to-face meeting with his younger brother and his wife, where they’d reiterate the message that Harry and Meghan are private citizens.

Meghan has no public engagements on the calendar as of yet, but Harry is set to attend several charitable events in the U.K. in the next few weeks. On September 7, the Lord Chamberlain sent a letter on behalf of King Charles emphasizing that the Sussexes were no longer working royals.

‘Stubborn’ Prince William may have no choice but to meet with Prince Harry

While getting the Sussexes and the Cambridges in a room together might help them hash out their issues, arranging a sit-down will probably be a challenge.

“I don’t know if [a meeting] is likely. William is known to be very stubborn,” Walker said. “He and Harry are not on good terms at all. Not on any speaking terms. But I think something needs to happen.”

Eventually, both couples may find themselves at the same event. Depending on how the encounter goes, it could lead to a media firestorm. William, however reluctant, may well want to head off any potential issues by meeting with his brother privately before a public event brings them together.

“William is extremely concerned about what Harry’s return to Britain will mean for working members of the family. It may well be too risky for them to just sit back and let Harry make the next move,” royal biographer Duncan Larcombe wrote for Women & Home.

“There are suggestions that they feel they have no choice but to ask the Duke of Sussex for a face-to-face meeting to discuss the future and lay down, or at least reiterate, some of the rules,” he continued. “Whether Harry will agree to meeting them all is up for debate, but it is felt that the King and William have little option but to try.”
