Love Is Blind is one of the hottest shows on Netflix, a reality TV series that has been compared to shows such as The Bachelor. Fresh, funny, and dramatic, Love Is Blind has earned fans of all ages – and with celebrity hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey, it seems likely that Love Is Blind will retain its status as a pop-culture talking point for months to come. With so many new fans, many are wondering what happens behind the scenes on Love Is Blind—and whether the bride and groom really have any say at all in the planning of the wedding.

What is ‘Love Is Blind’ about?

The first season of Love Is Blind premiered on Netflix in early 2020, to immediate interest. Described initially as a “blind love experiment,” Love Is Blind follows a group of contestants, both men and women, who are hoping to find true love.

Over the course of a few weeks, the contestants go on a series of dates, where they can talk to each other but not see each other in person. After one contestant proposes to another, they are then able to see each other in person —and the true test begins.

Engaged couples move on to obstacles such as meeting each other’s families, living in the same apartment complex and eventually, planning a wedding, which is always set to be held at the end of a four-week period. At the wedding, the couple must decide whether they truly want to spend the rest of their lives with each other, or if they want to walk away for good.

The wedding is the penultimate moment in Love Is Blind, requiring contestants to make a big choice. Interestingly enough, even though the contestants have the option to get married for real, they have very little say in the actual wedding details. According to Insider, the couples on Love Is Blind are only allowed to invite a double handful of guests to the ceremony. “They have to pick 12-15 guests that they want,” a representative from the show said.

“And they give them a heads up because, obviously if they’re engaged, most of these folks do at least walk down the aisle,” the representative from Love Is Blind noted. “Whether they say yes or no, we all find out together, but they want their friends and family there. So they have their guest list they provide to us.” Additionally, couples don’t really have a say in the specific wedding venue, since the venue has to accommodate camera and lighting crews.

Wedding guests must sign an NDA in order to attend the ceremony

Love Is Blind counts on the element of surprise in order to keep viewers guessing. Therefore, it’s no surprise that producers and showrunners want the mystery of whether couples stay together to remain a secret until the very end.

Insider report notes that even the guests who are invited to attend the wedding ceremonies are required to complete a few requirements before participating. Not only do the guests have to sign an NDA before attending the ceremony, but they are also not allowed to bring their phones to the wedding.

Both of these measures are designed to prevent spoilers leaking to the public and press – keeping the details of what happens between the couples on Love Is Blind a secret right up until the series drops on Netflix.
