When Tom Holland was cast as Spider-Man/Peter Parker, he had only acted in several movies in total. His breakout role was in the 2012 film The Impossible, opposite Ewan McGregor. Evidently, his work in the film caught the attention of Marvel showrunners, and in 2015 was officially announced that Holland would be the latest film incarnation of the famed web-slinger. His first appearance as Spider-Man was in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War

Fans of all ages loved the way that Holland took on the challenge, and these days, he’s one of the most beloved actors in the MCU. He’s portrayed Spider-Man in a total of six films, most recently in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The blockbuster movie revealed a new side to Holland — and allowed him to share the screen with two other comic book legends.

Tom Holland acted alongside Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Viewers got not one, but three different versions of Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home. At one point in the film, the Multiverse opens and two Spider-Men from alternate universes, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, appear to assist Peter Parker in defeating a series of dangerous villains. Fans had long speculated that Maguire and Garfield would be appearing in the film, but those scenes where all three actors shared the screen were indeed extra-special.

It wasn’t just longtime fans of the Spider-Man franchise that loved the scenes where Holland, Garfield, and Maguire interact. As Holland recently revealed, he got extra emotional during one of those scenes.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Holland opened up about how it felt to work with actors who had played the role of Spider-Man in the past. As reported by Insider, Holland said that as he was preparing to film the final scene featuring all three of the Spider-Man actors, he got very emotional.

“We were on set shooting the rooftop scene where I meet the boys for the first time, and before one of the takes … It must have been my close-up or something. It was one that really, really required me to bring the emotion to the shot,” Holland said.

He went on to note, “I went up to the two boys (Garfield and Maguire) on the level that they were standing, and I said to them, ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you for doing this. Thank you for being here’ … So we all embraced each other, and we were all crying because it meant so much to us. And Jon Watts, Amy Pascal and the writers saw this moment between the three of us and were like, ‘Brilliant! Well, now we know how they’re going to say goodbye to each other.”

Holland explained that showrunners ended up reshooting that exact same moment between the actors for the movie.
