‘Age Inappropriate’ Stars Janet and Drew Weigh In On Vic and Caroline’s Controversial Relationship
Age Inappropriate’s most controversial couple are “amazing,” their co-stars say.
Vic Christopher and Caroline Conboy raised viewers’ eyebrows when they shared their unconventional relationship on the We TV reality series. He’s a 50-year-old restaurant owner and self-proclaimed playboy with a history of age-gap relationships, while she’s an easygoing 24-year-old whose friends wonder what she sees in her older boyfriend. They’ve been together since she was around 20 and he was in his mid-40s.
Vic and Caroline stir up controversy on ‘Age Inappropriate’
The Age Inappropriate couple’s romance generated plenty of controversy, from their hostile couples therapy session to Vic’s habit of late night outings with female colleagues, leaving Caroline feeling unappreciated and ignored.
Even celebs were weighing in on their toxic dynamic.
“Objectification. When a partner is an object,” Oscar winner Patricia Arquette commented on one of their posts.
Toward the end of the season, the commit-phobic Vic did pop the question. But it wasn’t exactly happily ever after for the pair. When Caroline questioned his maturity, he threatened to dump her for someone “far younger” than her.
“I mean, not far younger than me,” she replied. “Because that would be illegal.”
In the end, Caroline was left feeling that moving forward with a wedding to Vic was “impossible.” She moved out of his place and back in with her parents. But after filming wrapped, they reconciled – though they are still not engaged.
Janet from ‘Age Inappropriate’ says Caroline is ‘so mature for her age’
It can safely be said that most of the internet is not a fan of Vic and Caroline together. But two of their Age Inappropriate cast-mates say the couple are genuine. Janet Jackson-Gordon, 60, and Drew Gordon, 40, connected with the pair when they were both in New York City to appear on Tamron Hall.
Janet told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that Vic and Caroline “were amazing” and that they “love them.” But she admitted that she was initially afraid she and the much-younger Caroline would have nothing in common.
“All I kept thinking was, ‘Oh my God, I’m old enough to be her grandmother,’” she said. “I was like, ‘Am I going to have anything in common with her?’ And then we met them. Oh my God, Caroline is such a sweetie. She’s so mature for her age. She really is. We’ve had grown women conversations and I was like, wow, that shows you again … you can never judge just because she’s younger, she’s not going to be up to my level or we’re not going to be able to have conversations. Man, we had a ball with them.”
Drew said he and Vic connected over their shared New York City roots.
“What you see on the show with Vic is what you get in real life as far as the energy and the persona and the bravado,” he said. “He’s all of that. He just reminds me of just a fellow New Yorker because I’m originally from New York and he was from Brooklyn and I was born in Brooklyn.”
“Everything about him just reminded me of my friends growing up, so I immediately gravitated towards him,” he added. “When I met him, the first thing we did was hug each other like we knew each other, but it was great. We had an amazing time getting to know them and they’re super awesome.”
