Britney Spears is back on social media, and she’s not sharing a bubbly, happy update. The 44-year-old pop icon is known for popping up on the internet to talk about her life, share dance videos, and chat with fans, but her latest upload was a fiery one, suggesting that all is not well between Britney and her complicated family.

Britney Spears’ Fiery Instagram Post is Grabbing Attention

Britney Spears has some grievances to air with her sister and her ex-husband, and she’s using Instagram to do it. On Nov. 1, Spears shared a still of a young Dakota Fanning giving someone the middle finger in the 2003 film Uptown Girls. In the caption, she said she would “find a new family” and claimed that Jamie Lynn Spears and Kevin Federline “made me feel like a slave.”

Spears accused Jamie Lynn, 35, of keeping her from bonding with her niece, Ivey, during visits to Louisiana in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ivey is 8 now, though the incident reportedly happened when Ivey was still a toddler. She threw shade at her ex-husband, too, claiming he wouldn’t let her use the bathroom when she picked up their children at his house. Both boys, Sean Preston and Jayden James, are over the age of 18 now.

“They made me feel like a slave and have all their secret things they did behind my back and all I ever did was work for my dad!!!” she wrote.

It’s unclear what prompted Spears to sound off, though her family has a long and very public history of tension. This isn’t the first time she’s taken her grievances public, either.

A Long-Running Family Rift

Britney Spears was largely silent about her life and her family during her 13-year conservatorship, which put her father in charge of her finances and career. Once the conservatorship ended in 2021, she became far more vocal, though some fans have voiced concern over her seemingly disjointed social media updates and angry captions.

Over the years, she has called out her father, her sister, and Federline. She remains estranged from her father, and her relationships with Jamie Lynn and Federline have been frosty at best. Spears has publicly accused her sister of failing to support her during the conservatorship, and the two traded barbs in 2022 around the release of Jamie Lynn’s memoir, Things I Should Have Said.

Things with Federline have been even more volatile over the past year. In October 2025, he released a memoir, You Thought You Knew, in which he made a series of allegations about Spears’ behavior during their marriage and co-parenting years, including claims of drinking while pregnant and drug use. He said he wrote the book for the sake of their sons, but Spears’ representatives accused the former backup dancer of profiting off her once again, noting that the book came out after her child support obligations to him had ended.

Spears has since begun rebuilding her relationship with her now-adult sons, though things with Federline remain strained. Neither Federline nor Jamie Lynn Spears has commented on Britney’s latest post.
