Meghan Markle Trolled After Her Netflix Show Loses Emmy to Dog Series
Meghan Markle is dealing with the bitter taste of defeat and plenty of trolling, too, after her Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, came up short at the Emmys. Critics are having fun with the loss, noting that the Duchess of Sussex lost out to a show about dog sports. Here’s what went down, and what she and Prince Harry are working on with Netflix next.
Meghan Markle’s ‘With Love, Meghan’ Loses at the 53rd Annual Daytime Emmys
With Love, Meghan was nominated for Outstanding Lifestyle Program at the 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, a nomination that made headlines when it was announced in July. Meghan didn’t attend the non-televised ceremony, held Oct. 30 in Los Angeles, and the show didn’t take home a statue. Instead, the category went to A Different Breed, a nine-episode Prime Video docuseries about competitive dog sports and the handlers who train the dogs.
The other nominees were The Wizard of Paws, a BYUtv series about an animal prosthetist; George to the Rescue, an NBC home renovation series; and The Motherhood, a Hallmark series about parenting.
A Third Season is Not in the Books Yet
The Emmy nod was a rare bright spot for With Love, Meghan, which had a bumpy run from the start. The series premiered in March 2025 alongside the launch of Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, and showed her cooking, crafting, and hosting celebrity friends in California.
The first season briefly cracked Netflix’s Top 10 and drew 5.3 million views in the first half of 2025, ranking 383rd on the platform’s semi-annual engagement report, but it was never a juggernaut for the streamer. The second season, released in August 2025, did even worse. In January 2026, Page Six reported that the show would not return for a third season. The Sussexes still work with Netflix, though.
In 2025, the couple signed a scaled-back, multi-year first-look deal with the streamer. Projects in development include a scripted drama series about polo and a feature film adapting No Way Out, a memoir about the war in Afghanistan.
Critics Mocked the Loss
Meghan wasn’t in Los Angeles to see the loss in person, but the internet hasn’t stopped joking about it since. X users were quick to mock the result. “The animal kingdom is having a better Hollywood run than Meghan,” one wrote. Another royal critic called the loss “appropriately embarrassing” for the Duchess.
Not everyone was so harsh. Some users noted that the nomination alone was an achievement and that the series will be described as “Emmy-nominated” from here on out. Meghan celebrated the nomination on Instagram in July, thanking her crew and producers, but she doesn’t appear to have publicly addressed the loss.
