While D4vd, who was born David Anthony Burke, was recently in court for his murder trial, Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s family received little clarity. Burke has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 14-year-old Hernandez. His recent court appearance only lasted several minutes. A legal expert spoke about the brief appearance in court.

Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s family will continue to wait for answers

Burke appeared in court on October 19. Attorneys for the defense and prosecution agreed to another court date on Jan. 11, 2027. The Los Angeles public defender, who is now representing Burke, confirmed that he is eligible for his representation. Attorney Miguel Custodio tells Showbiz Cheat Sheet that this was a “blink-and-you-miss-it hearing.” It lasted under five minutes.

“The high-profile murder case was in and out of the courtroom in just minutes, leaving reporters and the public with no new answers,” said Custodio. “The victim’s loved ones will need to wait until January of 2027 to get answers.”

He explained that this showed him that neither side is ready to officially set a trial date.

“When a high-profile case delays its next status conference out by months, it tells me two things as a lawyer: first, the newly appointed public defenders are aggressively digging into a huge pile of complicated evidence, and second, both sides know they are nowhere near ready to set a trial date,” he said.

The case will likely go to trial in February.
