Darrell Sheets’ 3 Biggest ‘Storage Wars’ Finds
Darrell Sheets’ sudden death at 67 comes as a shock to the reality TV world. For over 100 episodes, Sheets’ over-the-top personality and zeal for a good deal enthralled fans of Storage Wars. Given that he was nicknamed “The Gambler,” his risk-taking antics sometimes helped him score big. Let’s take a look back at the antique store owner’s biggest wins.
Darrell Sheets was behind the biggest find in ‘Storage Wars’ history
Darrell Sheets’ storage bidding career was years in the making when he first appeared on Storage Wars. Still, one of his biggest finds was filmed by A&E’s cameras. Sheets is actually responsible for the biggest score in the show’s history.
After bidding around $4,000 on a unit in Montebello, California, Sheets opened the locker to find dozens of paintings. Before knowing much about the artist, Sheets noted that the artwork was beautiful to his son. The unit belonged to a Chicano artist named Frank Gutierrez. After the appraisal, Sheets learned the collection was worth $300,000.
He unearthed rare comic books and expensive jewelry, too
While the painting collection was by far Sheets’ most profitable Storage Wars moment, it wasn’t his only big score. He also unearthed a comic book collection worth a whopping $90,000. The collection, much of which ended up on Sheets’ eBay account, netted him a clean profit, too.
Other surprise finds, including a suitcase full of jewelry later appraised at around $20,000, helped make his career as an antique buyer worthwhile. Over the years, there have been questions about the authenticity of the show, but Sheets long maintained that many of his finds were 100% real.
How did Darrell Sheets die?
Darrell Sheets, 67, died by suicide on April 22, 2026. According to Fox News, Lake Havasu police responded to a 911 call around 2 a.m. and found Sheets dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sheets had retired to the city in 2019 after suffering a heart attack. He owned an antique store in the area.
