The 2025 Daytime Emmy nominations are out, and there’s one glaring omission. CBS’ hit new soap Beyond the Gates was not recognized in the Daytime Drama Series category. What gives?

‘Beyond the Gates’ is not eligible for 2025 Daytime Emmy Award

Beyond the Gates, which centers on a wealthy and influential Black family in the Washington, D.C., area, is the first new soap opera on a major U.S. broadcast network in decades. It’s also the first Black-led daytime drama since Generations, which premieres in 1989. At first glance, it seems that shutting the series out of the year’s nominations is a major snub. But there’s no conspiracy afoot.

Beyond the Gates isn’t being ignored by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The series simply isn’t eligible for an award this year. Nominees for the 52nd Annual Daytime Emmys needed to air between January 1 and December 31, 2024. Beyond the Gates did not premiere until February 2025, putting it well outside of the eligibility window. But it will be in the running for the 2026 awards.

“The eligibility window was calendar year 2024, so #BeyondTheGates isn’t eligible,” The Daytime Emmys clarified in a post on X before the nominations were announced. “We look forward to their participation next year!“

Which soaps were nominated for a Daytime Emmy this year?

With Beyond the Gates out of the running, which soaps are fighting for the Best Daytime Drama prize? Only three shows landed a nomination: Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and The Restless.

Notably, The Bold and The Beautiful was not recognized in the best drama category. It is one of just four soaps still airing on broadcast TV in the U.S. Streaming-only series The Bay and Neighbours, which were both nominated in 2024, also did not get best dramas nominations this year.
