Dua Lipa Rewore a Necklace at Her Wedding Ceremony, Jewelry Expert Weighs In
Dua Lipa and Callum Turner held a wedding at Old Marylebone Town Hall on May 31. Lipa wore a custom Schiaparelli bridal set with a Bulgari necklace. This is not the first time she has worn this necklace. A jewelry expert spoke about her decision to rewear the necklace for the ceremony.
Dua Lipa re-wore a Bulgari necklace at her town hall wedding
Lipa wore a custom Schiaparelli couture jacket and skirt to her wedding ceremony. She accessorized with a wide-brimmed hat, white gloves, and a Bulgari Serpenti necklace. Lipa previously wore the necklace at the BRIT Awards this year.
“Rather than commissioning a new bridal necklace for her wedding ceremony at London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall, Dua Lipa returned to a jewel already woven into her personal style story: Bulgari’s iconic Serpenti necklace,” Justin Daughters, Managing Director at Berganza, tells Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “It’s a choice that feels both deeply personal and highly symbolic.”
Daughters said that this felt like a move away from celebrity styling, which usually sees a person wearing an item just once.
“Historically, the most important jewels were worn and treasured throughout a person’s life rather than reserved for a single occasion,” he said. “In many ways, her decision feels closer to the traditions of true jewellery collecting than modern celebrity styling.”
He also believes the serpent necklace was a good fit for the occasion.
“The symbolism is also remarkably fitting for a wedding,” he said. “Throughout history, the serpent has represented eternity, transformation, renewal and enduring love. While it may seem like an unconventional bridal motif at first glance, it is actually one of the most meaningful symbols she could have chosen to mark the beginning of a new chapter. Jewellery has always been used to tell a story, and the Serpenti tells one of confidence, reinvention and lifelong commitment.”
Dua Lipa is reportedly thrilled with her small wedding
The couple’s London wedding was a small, intimate affair. The source said that this was a perfect fit for them.
“The London ceremony was exactly what they wanted,” they told People. “It was intimate and meaningful, and they were surrounded by loved ones. They had a small celebration after the ceremony and are so excited for what’s still to come.”
Lipa and Turner reportedly plan to hold a second wedding in Sicily over the weekend.
“They get to enjoy the best of both worlds,” the source said. “A private moment together and a larger celebration with family and friends in Italy.”
How did the couple meet?
Lipa and Turner met ahead of a friend’s birthday party in Los Angeles. They bonded over the book they were both reading.
“We sat next to each other and realized we were reading the same book, which is crazy,” Turner told The Sunday Times. “It’s called Trust [by Hernán Díaz] and I had just finished the first chapter and I told her and she looked at me and said, ‘I just finished the first chapter too.’ I said, ‘So we’re on the same page.’”
The actor said their meet cute felt like something out of a movie.
“In the movie version of it I look up to the sky and I’m like, I hear you. I understand. The signs are loud, don’t worry,” he said. “And that was really the first [moment].”
