EGOT Winner Viola Davis Could Be About to Score Her Second Emmy Thanks to New Paramount+ Series
Viola Davis is headed back to TV, and her next project might just be her ticket to a second Emmy.
The EGOT winner is set to star in Ascent, a new thriller for Paramount+, the streamer announced on Tuesday.
Viola Davis to play a ruthless corporate fixer in ‘Ascent’
Ascent is “a character-driven thriller set in the dangerous world of global corporate crisis and damage control.” The How to Get Away With Murder star will play Catriona Vail, an “elite corporate fixer” who weaponizes “the ruthless skills that have made her indispensable to billion-dollar clients when her estranged daughter is in danger.”
John Logan, the Oscar-nominated writer of Michael, Skyfall, Gladiator, and other hit movies, created Ascent and will serve as showrunner.
“I am overwhelmingly excited about this journey with the great John Logan,” Davis said. “We won the lottery with this one! Work in which both story and character are bold, awe inspiring, and deeply unique is why I became an artist … We are ready to create magic!”
“Viola Davis doesn’t just take on roles; she transforms them. Catriona Vail is an incredibly complex character and Viola is exactly the generational talent to bring her to life,” said Jane Wiseman, head of originals for Paramount+.

Fans have already declared themselves “sat” for the new show, which will premiere sometime in 2027.
“This feels like [How to Get Away With Murder] renewal, and I love it,” one person commented on Instagram.
“So excited to see Viola starring in another TV show!!” another wrote.
One person had a straightforward prediction: “And Emmy goes to… VIOLA DAVIS”
In 2015, Davis became the first Black woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for playing Annalise Keating in ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder.
