It’s been four years since Hallmark Channel’s family drama Chesapeake Shores came to an end after six seasons. In 2022, viewers said goodbye to the O’Brien family in a heartfelt series finale, which wrapped up the stories of Abby O’Brien (Meghan Ory), her parents, Mick and Megan (Treat Williams and Barbara Niven), and her brothers and sisters: Jess (Laci J. Mailey), Kevin (Brendan Penny), Connor (Andrew Francis), and Bree (Emilie Ullerup).

But what might have happened had Chesapeake Shores continued for another season? Earlier this year, we chatted with Ullerup about what she thought the future could have held for Bree.

“I feel like it could have gone two ways in terms of her love life. She could either have married Luke or stayed with Luke and it was all hunky-dory, or it could have all fallen apart,” the actor, who stars in Hallmark’s A Danish Christmas, which premieres November 1, said. “I feel like I would have believed either.”

In the final episode of Chesapeake Shores, Luke (Stephen Huszar) planned to leave town, as he believed his troubled past would bring Bree, a playwright, bad luck. She begged him to stay, telling him she loved him. Ultimately, Luke showed up at her parents’ wedding ceremony, explaining that she makes him want to learn to trust someone again.

Bree’s unconventional path in life and love was part of the character’s appeal, Ullerup said, adding that she leaned toward the idea of Bree and Luke’s romance eventually fizzling out.

“I also liked that we had one character in the show that represented people that didn’t necessarily just easily fall in love and got married and had kids and all of those things, but struggled with themselves maybe to find a person that they saw reflective of their morals and all of the things,” she said.

“So, had I had a say, even though people would have probably hated that Bree and Luke didn’t stay together, I would have liked to have continued to represent that person. But of course, I would like her to be wildly prolific and successful in her work life.”

Ullerup is likely correct that Chesapeake Shores fans would have been disappointed by that outcome for Bree and Luke.

“They’re the least alike, they have the most challenges to overcome, and so perhaps because of that reason, people were really rooting for them to get together,” executive producer Phoef Sutton told TV Insider post-finale. “And the actors have such chemistry together … They have the most overcome, but I think they’ll do it.”

A Danish Christmas premieres Sunday, November 1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Hallmark Channel, streaming the next day on Hallmark+. Chesapeake Shores is streaming on Hallmark+.
