Former Head of Police Security for the Royal Family Blasts Prince Harry and Meghan Over Latest Security Complaint
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived back in the U.K. in late August, and there have been reports of privacy and security concerns almost every week since.
In one instance, the duke and duchess made the decision to pull their two children, Archie and Lilibet, out of a school they had just started due to an issue with traffic and security during the morning drop-off. After that, a report surfaced that Meghan’s private cell phone number was leaked online after she joined a WhatsApp school group chat with other parents.
Then on Sept. 30, there were two men, believed to be international photographers, seen lurking around Archie and Lilibet’s new school.
The Sussexes’ spokesperson then released a statement to let everyone know about it, saying, “The decision by photographers to conduct themselves in this way around a school is extraordinarily reckless. There is a world of difference between legitimate media activity and photographers walking the perimeter of a school, stopping to look into the grounds and monitoring children as they go about their day. It is concerning enough that certain European paparazzi appear unwilling to respect the privacy of children at school.
“But to behave in this manner in these particular circumstances, and so soon after the incident at RAF Fairford, demonstrates an extraordinary lack of judgment. Whatever photographs they may have been seeking, this was not only an unacceptable intrusion into the privacy of children; it was an irresponsible and ill-considered way to conduct themselves in the vicinity of a school.”
There’s been an obvious question about why Meghan and Harry returned to England at all, especially after the prince continuously said it wasn’t safe for his family and he wouldn’t bring them there. Many have opined that they only came back to try and get their taxpayer-funded police protection reinstated.
The couple lost that 24-hour security when they stepped down from their roles as working royals in 2020, but have been trying tirelessly for years to get it back. Harry previously lost his bid in court as well, but since they have returned to the U.K., the case to determine if there is a threat and security risk is now being reviewed by RAVEC, the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures.
That is why several commentators and royal experts believe all the issues the Sussexes have faced since they came back are too coincidental. And some have pointed out that it’s common knowledge where Prince William and the Princess of Wales’ (formerly known as Kate Middleton) children go to school, and the exact route they take when dropping them off and picking them up, but they don’t have any issues like this.
Now, Dai Davis, who is the former head of Met Police security for the royal family, is weighing in and hit out at the Sussexes over the constant security scares we keep hearing about.
“Every week their so-called security team has to come up with new things,” Davis told The Sun. “Paparazzi is not a security incident. It is just to be expected. It’s not unrealistic to expect some paparazzi who will chance their arm; the security team can deal with that easily. I hope Ravec aren’t swayed, and common sense prevails as all the incidents amount to sweet FA. There’s no comparison to Fairford. It’s bordering on shameless but ridiculous as well.”
The Daily Mail reported that the RAVEC decision is expected “within weeks,” and if Meghan and Harry don’t get the taxpayer-funded security they’ve been pushing for, they’ll likely move back to Montecito.
