Georgina Rodriguez’s Wedding Band Is a Far Cry From the Engagement Ring Cristiano Ronaldo Gave Her
As many fans were trying to figure out just when and where Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez were going to tie the knot, the couple revealed that they are married.
The newlyweds shared the news via Instagram with a photo of their wedding bands. The post was simply captioned, “C❤️G.”
According to multiple reports, the soccer superstar and his longtime partner quietly said, “I do” in a small private ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, with only their five children present, on Aug. 11. The date marks one year since Ronaldo asked Rodriguez to marry him with a massive 30-carat engagement ring.
The simplicity of their wedding bands has surprised a lot of people since there was nothing simple about the ring Ronaldo proposed with.
Professional jeweler and founder of Queensmith Brett Afshar shared some details about their choice of wedding rings, telling Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “These wedding bands are such an interesting choice for a couple with such a lavish lifestyle. Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez’s rings look to be 18k gold, domed court bands, putting them at roughly $1400 to $1900 — a simple but actually very practical choice.
“For someone like Cristiano, with such an active lifestyle, a larger or more elaborate band could easily get in the way. For Georgina, her engagement ring is said to be an incredible 30 carats, so you really don’t want a wedding band competing with that level of sparkle. In the photo they shared on social media, Georgina can be seen wearing her engagement ring on her right hand. This could be because a traditional wedding band simply wouldn’t sit comfortably alongside a ring of that scale.”
Afshar continued, “With an engagement ring like hers, we’d typically expect to see a bespoke shaped band designed to curve around the center stone, or perhaps an open design, rather than a traditional straight band. There’s also the question of mixed metals. Her engagement ring is set in platinum, while the wedding band is yellow gold. Wearing different metals together can cause wear over time, particularly when harder platinum is constantly rubbing against softer gold.
“That doesn’t mean mixed metals are off the table, though. Wearing them on different fingers avoids that friction while still giving you the contrast. An engagement ring of Georgina’s scale is certainly not the most practical choice for everyday wear, which could suggest that the simple wedding bands were chosen as a more practical option for daily life, while her statement engagement ring may be reserved for special occasions.”
Speaking on behalf of Cafe Casino, jewelry expert and Mokume Gane designer Jaume Labro added, “The underlying metal cost may be lower than what you’d normally pay for such an item as there’s no guarantee it contains even the smallest diamond(s), let alone high-quality stones.
“When taking into account that this is bespoke manufactured by a well-known jeweler who has presumably taken great care in its design & craftsmanship, plus of course the fact that it has been worn by a celebrity and therefore comes with some degree of ‘endorsement,’ I estimate the likely retail value of the two items together to range from the few thousands through to the upper tens of thousands.”
