Halle Berry’s Ex Claims She Called Their Son ‘Stupid’ Prior to Alleged Physical Abuse
Halle Berry’s ex-husband Olivier Martinez alleges that she physically abused their 12-year-old son in a disturbing incident last month.
Halle Berry’s ex Olivier Martinez says she choked their son
In court documents, Martinez claims that the 60-year-old actor choked their son Maceo on September 26. He is requesting full custody.
The assault happened after Berry told their child that he looked “stupid” and was “such an idiot” for playing a game using his virtual reality goggles, Page Six reported.
“The situation escalated and Petitioner jumped on our son and started physically fighting with him,” Martinez, who wants a restraining order against his ex, claims in the filing. “She grabbed Maceo by the neck and started choking him while shouting, ‘Who is dominant now?! Who is dominant?!’”
Per TMZ, Berry later texted Martinez and said she “feel[s] terrible about what happened last night as I know he does as well.” The pair have been ordered to participate in confidential mediation to address custody, the outlet says.
In his filing, Martinez said that the latest incident is part of a pattern of violent behavior from Berry and that their son is “traumatized” as a result. He also claimed that his ex-wife has made racially charged statements about him to their child. The French actor added that he believed Berry had mental health issues and a problem with alcohol.
Berry has not publicly responded to Martinez’s allegations.
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez had a lengthy divorce
Martinez and Berry began dating in 2010. They married in 2013, shortly before she gave birth to Mateo. They split up in 2015 and finalized their divorce in 2023. In 2026, Berry announced her engagement to her longtime boyfriend, musician Van Hunt.
Prior to dating Martinez, Berry was involved with Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, with whom she shares a daughter. The pair were involved in a high-profile and contentious custody battle when she wanted to move with their child to France to live with Martinez. In 2012, Aubry and Martinez were involved in a Thanksgiving Day fight outside of Berry’s home when Aubry dropped his and Berry’s daughter off for a visit. At the time, Aubry claimed that Martinez had threatened to kill him if he did not agree to let Berry and his daughter move abroad.
